Something's knackered in the drivetrain. You need to get the front wheels chocked and the rear wheels off the ground, then try and start the car in first gear and see what's happening underneath. Is the prop spinning?

If he had a 320 with an auto, a lot of noise with no movement would mean it's all working normally, surely.Brianmoooore wrote:Auto or manual gearbox?

Could be owt pal...give it a visual.inspection then if theres nothing alarmingly obvious...drop the box oil and check for metal debris in the oil.

The title of this thread and the description given in the first post are of two different things.
You say it has no drive, but then you describe a noise which stops when you press the clutch, but you don't say what happens when you put it into gear or what happens when you let the clutch up with it in gear.

Look underneath the car with the engine running, in gear, and the clutch up. Is the prop. shaft turning at the rear of the gearbox?

Make sure one of the drive flanges hasn't popped partly out of the side of the diff. Had this one years ago, just before I was due to drive off for three weeks touring holiday. Just needed pushing in and all was good.
