Im after some new wheels for my touring but im a bit nervous what to get ive curently got Azev A's on which have 16 7.5j H2 cast into them.
My problem is the Azevs curently require a spacer 15mm (i think) to clear the caliper and still Bareley clear the caliper!
A search on the net threw up a few different offsets for these wheels so im not sure that they are
I am after having a set of banded steelys made but to do that i need to know what offset to order?
To complicat matters i am wanting an 8 or maybe 8.5J rears
any help would be loveley
thanks chaps

This is Verde's E30, lowered with dead bodies in the boot...
9J rears, ET30 with 5mm spacer making them ET25 with 215/40/16 tyres on, should give you an idea

Are 9J borbet A's not Et15 (Or are those not A's?
What size are the steels your giving them?

I imagine you can buy them in varying offsets, or used to. They're verde's, that's the offset he told me, came up in conversation whilst talking about my new wheels which aren 9j et20

The most you can comfortably achieve is et15 on a 16x9 with a 215/40/16 on the rear. If it's lowered it'll need the arches rolling though.
Not sure on the fronts, I only had 7.5's with an ET38. They could probably be taken to around ET20 with a bit of camber. E30 front wings don't tend to have much of an arch lip.

you don't usually ask for an offset with banded steelies, as they usually just cut the rim and add a band to the outside edge.fearlessphil wrote:Im after some new wheels for my touring but im a bit nervous what to get ive curently got Azev A's on which have 16 7.5j H2 cast into them.

so, if you're after quite a bit of width you're better off starting with wheels that usually have too high an offset for an e30.
something like the vw g60 15in steelies which probably have an offset somewhere around 40mm, so would look tucked too far into the arches on a standard e30, but means you have more room on the outside for a wider band before getting arch issues.
it's usually easier to correct an offset that's too high as you can just add spacers to get the wheel sitting where you want.
Wheel offset often has very little to do with caliper space, that's more a property of the design of the wheel itself. you could have an et20 wheel with a lot of dish and a flat face which has got less room inside than an et40 with a bowled centre.
if you're thinking about banded steels, it's often easiest to bolt them on the car, make sure you have clearance for the brakes, and the strut / steering arm etc, then work out how much extra width you can add to the front of the wheel, and not worry too much about the final offset.
cheers,
harry

Sorry for the thread hijack - but would 16x9 wheels with 215/45/16 or 225/40/16 wheels fit with 18mm spacers under the arches unmodified??

Should fit, but you will need arch work/stretched tyres/both

18mm spacers will drop the et on your rear to et6, thats a lot of poke!! They're going to stick out a further 19mm than Verde's in the pic above, same story on the front, 18mm spacers will drop the fronts to ET5!!

so would i be better off with the permanent solution of hub conversion and 318ti rear arms? (they add 12mm) rather then 18mm adaptors?

To be honest, I'd be more inclined to find wheels in the correct fitment. Hub conversion is expensive, and you still have offsets of et11 and et12, which means you'll need to roll the arches, if not need to have them pulled and flared, depending on how low you're going

Sorry missed the bit about 18mm spacers, you have no chance of fitting them without major flaring.

well, i'd be 5mm less poke, plus it would save having to run 4x100 to 5x120 adapters, and there aren't any of those i'd be happy running on my own cars as there's always a bit of a bodge on one of the bolts.Quaser wrote:so would i be better off with the permanent solution of hub conversion and 318ti rear arms? That looks like the best solution so far.
Guessing they need to be reasonably thick though to allow the stud to sit over the insert with enough meat on both sides.

17 or 18mm is their thinnest. I like the look of them as well, not cheap though.

They could work with careful tyre choice, but arches will need more than a gentle roll.
