I'm wanting my brakes to as good as possible, without having to go down the route of pedal boxes,
so whats the biggest master cylinder I could fit on the clio servo?
I want the Pedal feel to be as hard as possible, so it wont take too much of an effort to put my eyeballs on the dash.
The brakes I have on at the mo are
Removed ABS,
Standard cylinder,
Brembo 4 pot's on the front, with 312mm discs
rears are touring calipers on standard discs

Bump...
Is the E32 Cylinder a straight swap ?
Does it work ok with the Clio servo?

I have an e32 cylinder on mine. It fits if you fit a longer rod like you have to do anyway with the clio servo.
I'm not happy with the performance though and plan to swap to an m3 cylinder.

Why you not happy with it? is it too harsh/too soft?
I thought the M3 one was only 22-23mm
and the E32 is 25?
meaning, if you go down to the smaller one it'll have a "softer" feel to the pedal...

I had a 23mm (25mm is available too) master from a Audi 80 quatro on my s50'd turd, it was dangerous with standard calipers but worked well with e36 m3 calipers

I've been told in a thread I had up it's not worth it for a street car, as Penton says it gets dangerous.

Trust me, it's needed for mine Jozi,
i'll look into the 25mm Quattro one, seems a hell of a lot cheaper than the E32 750, thats coming in at £200

You need to match the size to the front calipers, bias valve will most likely be needed for the rears if the fronts are overly large
Do you know what size MC the car had that the brembos came from?

I do believe it was a 25.4mm cylinder,DanThe wrote:You need to match the size to the front calipers, bias valve will most likely be needed for the rears if the fronts are overly large

calipers are the 4 pots from the E38,
so yeah i'll look for a 25mm one
Penton,
what reservoir did you use?
did the E30 one stick straight on or did you use the audi one?

Most 25mm cylinders ive seen are 25 front and rear, so you would need either a bias valve, or to fit similar rear calipers like 540

No point in restricting the fluid,
What do I need for the 540 stuff to fit?

As Dan says.....I'm assuming it's not matched to the brakes very well. The pedal is a bit too hard and has no feeling to it. I'm using e30 m3 running gear so an m3 cylinder probably makes sense for me. I'm going to find out sometime anyway.craigieeb wrote:Why you not happy with it? is it too harsh/too soft?

hi Dan, not sure I've understood this completely. Would the rears start to lock up when fitting only larger front calipers and discs, assuming all other variables remain the same.DanThe wrote:You need to match the size to the front calipers, bias valve will most likely be needed for the rears if the fronts are overly large

sort of, yeah, I think it would depend on how large the fronts are compared to standard,
The last time i had the beast out, the rear's were smoking and there was hardly any braking on the front to stop it,
Granted I was going stupidly quick.
so fitting large rears and a bigger master is the way to go, IMO
or the alternative....
is a bigger master, with a bios valve like Dan says
I know which i prefer

Right i'v decided to go down the rear bigger brake route,
I'v got the brackets
the discs will be sorted and a set of calipers are on their way
Back to the master cylinder...
If i use the 25mm one from the quattttttro,
do i need to block one of the ports off or should i run 2 lines to the rear calipers?
and what reservoir do I use, the E30 one or tuther?

Just thought i'd drag this one back up
i'v now got all the bits
E34 540i Calipers,
modified 294mm discs
25.4mm S2 master cylinder
and a pair of brackets to bolt the calipers up to the rear end

they'll probably get bolted up at some point over the weekend or next week, when i tackle the clutch change

Some M3 owners opt for the 750i 25mm master cylinder to alter the pedal feel.nickso wrote:As Dan says.....I'm assuming it's not matched to the brakes very well. On my S50d car, I ran the Audi 25mm m/c with both the standard 325i brakes and then later with standard E30 M3 brakes.
It was actually MOTd on the standard 325i brakes and 25mm m/c and passed no problems. Was definitely a better pedal with the M3 stuff though.
With the Audi m/c, you need to block off two of the ports, I can't for the life of me remember which ones though
I used a fluid reservoir from a VW IIRC, but that was down to lack of space with the S50 plenum.
I would guess that all the VAG reservoirs would be the same fitment.

Cool
I haven't had time to check the centre bore of the rear discs but are they OK Dan? Or do I need to reduce them somehow?

The cylinder i have has only got 2 ports on it, so i'm presuming ......
the port closest the servo = rear
and the other port,
a small bit of brake pipe out of that and into a T peice for the fronts,
I'll have a rummage round for a reservoir when i come to fit the stuff,
did you not try the E30 one?

My Audi m/c had 4 outlets, 2 each side. But thinking about it, I plumbed mine through the ABS pumped so only needed 2 pipes from the m/c.craigieeb wrote:jmc330i wrote:

The E30 reservoir was a no go on mine due to the rubber inlet elbow on the S50 engine. The reservoir was too long. The VW one I used was shorter and taller.
I fairly sure the E30 reservoir won't fit as the 'ports' don't line up between it and the Audi m/c. My initial plan was to mount it remotely but then someone mentioned the VW reservior fitted.

Wonder why my master only has 2 ports and yours 4,
abs non abs maybe?
No biggie tho, it's easily enough solved.
and im sure i'v seen a reservoir like that kicking about somewhere,
not sure if its in my cupboard of death or in my mates garage, or kitchen
but again thats easily sorted
