There are a few companies that you can text the reg number to and get it all checked for about 3 quid.
I normally do this before i buy any car, worth it for sake of 3 quid.

It's not Cat C/D ones you should be worried about! It's the cars that were Cat X for physical damage early in their lives, and are unrecorded that are the ones to avoid.
Contrary to popular belief, the insurance categories for damaged cars are not an indicator of the amount of damage a car has suffered in any way. They simply indicate the cost of repair as a percentage of their value, which mean that a £25,000 car with horrendous chassis and panel damage can be awarded a much less severe category than a £1000 car with a couple of scratches in the paint and a piece of cracked trim.

Is it a red chromie in Birmingham?
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

I've just got a Cat C repaired Corsa for my fiancee, her insurance company asked for a copy of the VOSA test certificate before they would insure it, so make sure the car comes with the certificate, or you can get a copy

????? You need the VOSA ticket (which only confirms the identity of the car - nothing to do with repairs, which don't even need to be started when the car is presented) to get a V5C. This ticket is sent off to the DVLA to get the V5C, and that's the last you see of it.Bristol_Jer wrote:I've just got a Cat C repaired Corsa for my fiancee, her insurance company asked for a copy of the VOSA test certificate before they would insure it, so make sure the car comes with the certificate, or you can get a copy
I've done several Cat Cs, and have never been asked for, or even have, anything to show an insurance company.

The certificate they gave when they checked the car before a new v5 could be issued after the car was repaired. The insurance company needed a copy to insure the car. Fuck knows why, but that's what they asked for

Is that not a VIC test when it has been a write off?

My insurers over the years have never asked me if my car was a write off. Don't think you're obliged to declare it unless the car is Q plated
