I'm thinking of fitting an M40 gearbox instead of my original plan which was to fit them M42 box. Is it still the same principle with the clutch flywheel and starter?

Cheers

Simply yes . Clutch and starter have to match flywheel . M20 gear will do the job .
You still have to get the backof the flywheel machined / lightened .

Is the M40 box strong enough for an M52?
