Waste of bandwidth IMHOpolsta wrote:point being, ebay threads appear on a regular basis in the pub, often about the same old thing all the time, why not have an ebay section, a sub under pub or external adds, im not fussed either way just pointing out it would be a good ideaKos wrote:Then they should join the fking e bay forums

In fact, give me the power to make/delete stickies and I'll do it myself
The new Zone will have a mobile theme if you require it, I will look at getting an app but not at this stageMo13 wrote:Any news on a mobile version or even an app?

Seeing as we have a Mod's attention
This isn't exactly on topic but was talking to a few mods from GTINI. They where saying they had just registered the forum as a business & they where raffling off a car etc at the Ultimate dubs show as a promotion for the forum.
I take it the e30zone will never go down that route??
It's just curious seeing as most car forums I'm on, sell advertising space & have a merchandise arm.

I can see a kindergarten sub section to members rides becoming popularmagpie wrote:members rides,is this where i stick wor lass
Re the sub sections for engine swaps and Motorsport etc, is there any need to have links to each sub section under the section title on the forum front page and inside the section itself?
IMO, looking at the forum front page, it looks a bit of a mess with all the engine swap sub sections listed.

Its nice to see some positive thoughts, ideas and plans to move forward, more involvement from the team is long overdue....
Will this new found commitment extend to more team presence or even involvement at some of the bigger meets, i.e pod etc.

Mystery to me, with the number of registered users and the huge amount of traffic, this site could make Steve a decent living if he monetised it. But.. I guess he just wants it to stay pleasant to use.

Advertisements don't have to be intrusive.
Just food for thought anyway. As GTINI wouldn't have the members of this place. Yet they had a 10+ convoy that went over to England & then promoted the site when they where there, die hard bunch.
Would have been nice to see some zoners over at Dubshed. BMWNI is there and there's always a few over from Europe, VAG lovers or not

It clearly does work if a forum with a membership of 2200 is able to make money out of it. They have autoglass and local car related business buying advertising space.... but no Asian flaps in siteNobby_N wrote:Yes i say monetise it! I think its a small price to pay if it gives the forum the financial ability to do a little bit more.
Anyway, the idea is out there now!

Would not work! Fact! New people come here for advice when they break there car(Like all of us did at some point) and some people like it so much we decide to live here because the rents cheap and most of the people are ok, Anyway if you started charging you would never get new people and eventually site would die!bab-91 wrote:It clearly does work if a forum with a membership of 2200 is able to make money out of it. I'm not talking about charging 'us' (the general users) you troglodyte!! Why would I suggest that! lol
I cant see how advertisements would put people off when on most car forums its the norm!
Doesn't advertisement revenue work out on clicks? Not on how many Bruvs Kos and Andy scare off?

I agree with this, trading tips for the best ways to scrape the chassis rails over the camber of the road is just ridiculous. Why have hundreds of hours work in the wiki showing people how to look after and get the best out of their E30's and then scroll down to a forum dedicated to ruining them?pnd wrote:This forum is an enthusiasts forum for e30's as such it has always promoted best practice for e30 ownership that does not include drifting and stance which involve wrecking or making e30's worse. encouraging these muppets is a retrograde step let them go elsewhere and let us continue to promote those aspects which enhance e30's not detract from them.
Drifting and stance have their own sites, and they are not model specific, for very good reasons

I agree, seems the zone is clutching at straws here by entertaining the driftcocks and stancefreaks, as Dan said there are dedicated sites for them,DanThe wrote: I agree with this, trading tips for the best ways to scrape the chassis rails over the camber of the road is just ridiculous. my view may seem extreme but that's because I have owned these cars for 20+ years and always done my best to keep them on the road and NOT destroy them as these idiots do...

I have to agree with this ! . And mine is from a drifters point of view , itll all be too many sub forums and itll look like a ghost town and noone will see anything to comment on ect.Kos wrote:Great idea in principal but too many sub forums I fear
The gallery should be for all cars regardless of their orientation
In Motorsport/track day should have Drift added to it
There section named as members e30's can be for journals for all our builds, both OEM & modified. Minor upgrades to full blown restorations.
In track section add a sub section for track/race/drift builds
I do not see the point of need to accommodate "stance" with a sub forum .
Stance comes under styling if you ask me . Oh and im not a total drift whore, my e30 was a daily until lots of rust discovered and cba kicked in with mintness . i will have a practical daily e30 when the right one comes around when i have cash .

the German show is what the Team are focusing on Paul there's no diffin or stance action there unless you include the Dub action

It's bad enough that they choose to trash E30's in this way without having a special section on this forum for them ffs!
There's plenty of drifting/stance forums on the web.
This place is for people that appreciate and look after their motors.

I drift , its not all drifters are cocks . Mine was intention to be shiny mint ect but rust got the better of it and so did the adrenalin of drifting . I still take care of my car , hense the reason it is off road now to replace repair and ugrade knakered bits ! .
I dont intend on spanking it in a wall but if it happens i know i havent ruined a clean shell , just a rust repaired one which is what most are right ? .
Drifting has become known as a motorspot . Just like banger racing was years ago , but its hit the nation harder than ever recently and the great influx of people who are having a go at the sport is good because damn its fun !
Only thing that makes me ponder and laugh is lads who buy a 316 destined for a washing machine size, slap a dodgy mot on it , weld the diff , (not that im against welders ,i have one and lrefer to lsd for it) and hit the streets thinking there shooting the next gymkana vid but instead smash up n hurt people .

We may well have had 50k+ people sign up to the zone, but we do not have 50k+ regular posters!
I would expect that the number of regular posters will be in the ballpark of 250/300,this may well be less than would be needed to turn the place into a 'Steve's Goldmine'!
No opinion regarding 'stance'(not even sure what it is)or drifting, but a good number seem to enjoy both,so why not let 'em in and see what happens?
Afterall, they do seem to be car enthusiasts,so may well contribute more than those who just hang out here for the cock and bum tales.
We do need to lift our image,it's got so bad that I'm often embarrassed at meets to admit to being a zoner, typically another E30 owner will tell me that they have joined the zone but are afraid to post because they have seen other newbies flamed or ridiculed.....or all they see is threads that have degenerated into rubbish that has no place on a car enthusiasts forum.Better moderation is obviously called for, along with those responsible toning down the content that they post.

I've not read all the thread but from the first page I would agree with what others have said in as much as I think the gallery should be left for pictures like when people have been out for a drive or to a show and have a few nice pics and we should have project/ build thread type subforum which covers all builds, this would help it to feel busy and there's probably quite a lot of common ground in most builds where info and tips are crossed over and added to a thread.
I can see its easy to make all the subforums and then say if you don't like stance or drift or modified then don't go in but realy its as easy as if you look at a thread and don't like it, don't look at it again.
Presumably the subforums will scroll on the home page too so theres still a chance people will click on them and end up at a thread they don't like as such, up to a point all posts are valid when e30 related so its down to the member to self moderate weather there comment is realy necessary and adds to the thread or is just baiting someone.

well said ! some of the problem lay with older/longer term members , who maybe dont have so much interest in the actual cars these days, and are a bit institutionalised and and just hang about posting narky/piss taking comments, and thats more or less all they do post, and moan about stuff they dont like or have seen before (which is a lot as theyve been around so long) they never ever ever post about their own cars or pics or threads or projects or work either..daimlerman wrote:We may well have had 50k+ people sign up to the zone, but we do not have 50k+ regular posters!

also, do drifting/stance sites/bmw ones, have "oem/standard" sections ? probably not, keep them on there, us on here i say, otherwise this will become a a mish mash and loads of aggro (probably leading to the real downfall) and they will still have their own sites, and then there will be no where like here ...DanThe wrote:I agree with this, trading tips for the best ways to scrape the chassis rails over the camber of the road is just ridiculous. Would be interesting to see, as most stats are available for review, what our community numbers look like:
Active members (posted in last month)
Average tenure after joining
Top 250 posters
Top 50 thread starters
Stuff like that.
Then meaningful thoughts can go into creating new rooms/areas instead of knee jerking or reacting to a minority presence-
But that means also being clear on what the site key reason for being is....
Just my fourpenneth of what I'd do if I had the data

Oil and water don't mix well. Neither do people trying to maintain or restore an E30 and people who want to kill them slowly with drifting. You can't stop people buying an E30 to ruin, but you don't have to mix with them.

Have no problem with either Stance or Drift forums, this is
an ever changing forum and as such should be open to all.
As long as either formats are keeping E30,s on the road
and are not mechanically dangerous, or driven irresponsibly,
then good luck to them.
No one is forced to enter a forum.
If people want an OEM, buff your cars daily, drive them when it's sunny forum, try the BMWCC.
Just because some members on here don't like drifting or stance doesn't mean it's wrong or doesn't have a place on here.
I know a couple people who don't agree with my choice of engine conversions in the past (or any conversion in one case), but they don't feel need to come on here and try to banish the engine swap section from the forum.
Some people really need to wake up and realise that the Zone and the world of E30s is bigger than their ideal surrounding their own ideas, cars and BMW logo polishing rags.

Statistical analysis.... Make sure the oem crowd do it. If the stance & drift cocks do it we will only get a presentation of funny cats & potential death, from choking on a crayon!!bigwinn wrote:Would be interesting to see, as most stats are available for review, what our community numbers look like:
Active members (posted in last month)
Average tenure after joining
Top 250 posters
Top 50 thread starters
Stuff like that.
Then meaningful thoughts can go into creating new rooms/areas instead of knee jerking or reacting to a minority presence-
But that means also being clear on what the site key reason for being is....
Just my fourpenneth of what I'd do if I had the data
Good idea but time consuming!!

The reason I never see my car (let alone you lot see it) is that I'm too busy replying to PM after PM from people with a million questions who never actually buy anything!polsta wrote:well said ! some of the problem lay with older/longer term members , who maybe dont have so much interest in the actual cars these days, and are a bit institutionalised and and just hang about posting narky/pee pee taking comments, and thats more or less all they do post, and moan about stuff they dont like or have seen before (which is a lot as theyve been around so long) they never ever ever post about their own cars or pics or threads or projects or work either..daimlerman wrote:We may well have had 50k+ people sign up to the zone, but we do not have 50k+ regular posters!
Afterall, they do seem to be car enthusiasts,so may well contribute more than those who just hang out here for the c**k and bum tales.
