Hi guys,

I bought my car with a hid kit fitted, one of the bulbs has gone and I was just wondering where I can get replacements or what I need? Iknow they are 4300k bulbs at the moment.

Thanks

you also need to know if they're 35W or 55W - it'll be printed on the ballast.

Sellers over here do 4300k 35W bulbs for about 3 quid 8O

You might wanna take em out, the new MOT regs have just been released and HID's will fail unless you can comply.

Well I'm a tester and the ministry send out special notices to test stations with any updates and all the things that were put on hold last year are now coming into force next week. One of them being HID's. It just depends if you want to comply or not.

I know there are new regs that have been introduced concerning HID lights, but I haven't seen anything that will affect fitting them to facelift E30 lamp units. What is the relevant text?

There's pages of it, the best thing to do is read the updated testers manual when it comes online. From what I quickly read, to comply you need to have headlamp washers, projection headlamps which is no big deal, it's the self leveling crap that's the problem. If I remember right if the car was fitted with projection headlamps and washers you are fine but if the car wasn't fitted with them you have to have self leveling headlamps, the best thing to do is read the testers manual just to make sure. There is a way around the self leveling, if the car has modified suspension you don't have to have self leveling. That's how I got around it with my old chrome bumper car. But again read the manual it'll be online soon.

I deciphered it a year or so a go as the car having to have projector lenses, self leveling headlights and headlight washers. I'm sure hiding the ballast and claiming they're just really bright bulbs might get around it. E30 projectors have a great beam pattern anyway. Just make sure the headlights are set correctly to stop them blinding other people.
