After takin my boy to school 20min run use manual choke on start up reduced to nothing within 1 mile . leaving it for 3 hrs i started up with no choke , it ticked over ruff my MPG dial kept spikeing to 50mpg maybe 3 times and car would stall . tried again same thing . I have no idea where to start looking , it has a weber convertion and was serviced 2000 miles ago but not fuel filter . it has also crashed from 23-26 mpg to 12-16 mpg and as you can imagine i am constantly whacking 30quid a go , I have to fix it or let her go , I say fix misses says go , I SAY FIX . quietly.
Any help would be great .

I'd check that the choke flap is opening properly when the knob is in.

Checked , all fine. If the mpg needle spikes could it be electrical ?

now the car won't start. it turns but i get a cough out of the carb but will not fire up. checked the dizzy . all sorted . but can anyone tell me why the dramatic drop in MPG
