One of my late type mirrors has bad corrosion on the metal part, just brought one off eBay and the plastic colour coded cap has poor paint:-( can I split these to make one good mirror? Had a good go but struggled to pop the glass lenze out.
Any one done this? Got any tips?

there's a white clip behind the mirror/glass, tilt the glass up/down till you can see the clip which has some raised teeth use a screw driver to turn this clip either left or right and you should be able to remove the mirror from the housing.

That removes the glass, and the motor assembly is just four screws behind it, but apart from that, the rest isn't designed to come apart.
