I seem to do a lot of these sorta threads but is there a generally regarded " best light tint spray " to use for doing my crosshaired headlights? Iv read the guide in the wiki, what do you all recommend, just that E tech stuff?

I know nothing about lights/tints, but the best smoke is definitely Blue Cheese.

if you're doing them properly, i.e taking them to bits and adding crosshairs you don't want tinting spray as you dont do anything to the glass.
Any old satin black will do for the crosses and the front reflector of the dipped units, although heat resistant would be a good idea.

As above, use a heatproof black as a basecoat, then normal matt black on top.

Spray the crosshairs, not the reflector in the High beam.
Spray the "Smilie" reflector in the main beam.

yes, you leave the lenses exactly as they are.verde wrote:I thought you had to smoke the lenses aswell? I have heatproof black paint to use.

the 'smoked' look is all an optical illusion. in the main beam the reflector and the lens are still as they left the factory, you just add a thin black crosshair which gets reflected around inside the light making it look dark when viewed from the outside, but the light from the bulb still gets reflected forwards to light up the road with no noticable reduction in output.
on the dip beam, the only usefull light comes out of the small projector lens in the centre, which looks dark when you look at it with the lights off. the silver reflector surrounding it is only there to make it look nice, it doesnt actually reflect any usefull light, so you paint this black so the whole lamp looks dark, but again, no reduction in light output.
of course, you could tint the lens or the reflector (or both) with a film or paint and end up with a similar look but despite what some people say, it WILL reduce the light output, which is never a very good idea.
cheers,
harry
