I fitted my m30 in to the car yesterday, after wrestling with it for about 2 hours trying to get it into position 3.

I used a pair of burton power rs2000 50mm mounts, after I finally got it into position 3 and started to tighten down the nuts on the mounts I hit a problem.

The right hand side mount (passenger side) when looking at the car from the front, when tightened started to separate.

I was thinking that the threaded stud ran all the way through the mount, so if I tightened it a little more it should all tighten down, but instead the mount came apart.

As a stop gap i fitted the old mount on that side but I still seem to have the same problem where if I tried to fully tighten down the nut the old mount will also separate.

Here are some pics which may explain the problem a little better.

Is this normal, what could I do to tackle this problem?

Ah that's where you're going wrong... you're using Ford parts.!

M20 engine mounts are about 8 quid each, try them.

As above, and make sure you get the Metal cup the mounts sit into aswell.
It helps to stablise the rubber.

It sounds like the engine isn't coming all the way down, something is blocking it from dropping into place? I've used the burton 50mm mounts and they were perfect with the standard M30 mounts (that Lee supplied).

It doesn't seem like there is anything stopping it coming all the way down that I could see but you could be right, I will have another look when I work on it next.

I have ordered another replacement mount and stainless steel cups from burton power, so when they arrive I will try and sort this out. Its a real PITA to get it on the mounts in position 3.

The only thing that could be stopping it coming down is if the inlet is touching the servo, or the sump hitting the crossmember or steering rack, is it a standard E30 rack your using?

Yes I'm using a standard rack, if I remember correctly I had space between the sump and cross member but I will have a look at the inlet servo clearances.

If its caked in mud (the reason I am building the 3.5 touring, my line of work means it gets very mucky) and has a hardtop on it, then that may be me, I have a friend who lives there.

I think I've seen you about smart looking motor you got there.
