m52 vs m30
Moderator: martauto
in an E36 chassis S50B32 is a second quicker in the 1/4 (13.8 @104) and 6mph (14.8@94 ) faster at the end of the 1/4.
i could see this not translating to a E30 chassis due to not being able to putting the power down at the start affecting the time alot. but the trapspeed which what matters for determining the faster car when moving should be alot better on a S50B32 otherwise the engine isnt running right.
Most of the S50/M5x/M30 engines are long in the tooth how many 24V swaps use freshly rebuilt engines? makes a big difference

Excellent, the first person to mention the start. The most important part of quater mile. The first 60 needs to be 1.7 or lower to have an awesome run. I'm struggling to get below 2.3 which helps the saxo turbos Finnish in the same time as me. Btw my average terminal is 103.reggid wrote:in an E36 chassis S50B32 is a second quicker in the 1/4 (13.8 @104) and 6mph (14.8@98 ) faster at the end of the 1/4.

Better tyres and some weight in the rear goes a long way on the strip.

I was getting 1.9 sec 60ft times quite regular in stock road trim. Would just be in the high 8's at the 1/8 mile but never got the 100mph terminal speed in my chromie.

So i've been told the good ones make more like 320-325bhpDanThe wrote:Oh and dont forget the Alpina 3.4 which kicks out over 300hp![]()

I reckon this would be a corker in an e30 as they rev so well. Whats the torque on them? They'll be plenty about in a few years as they love a headgasket at about 80-100k.
They're a real step up from the 3.3 and 3.2 mills which don't seem to have a great deal difference. Same torques but 3.2's a bit less ponys
I've a really nice 3.0lt that might be up for grabs.The_Diddler wrote:My little 2.8 suddenly seems like the poor boy![]()

There are more poorly ones about than decent ones it seems.
The guy I was chatting to at Gaydom last year was telling me about the rolling road results from the Alpina dyno days he's been to and as you say they are usually all achieving 320 or more, torque is about 270lbft so more than an S50Simon13 wrote:So i've been told the good ones make more like 320-325bhpDanThe wrote:Oh and dont forget the Alpina 3.4 which kicks out over 300hp![]()

Ive just had a look at a couple of pics i got of slips, my lowest was 2.15.zaust wrote: The first 60 needs to be 1.7 or lower to have an awesome run. I'm struggling to get below 2.3
Ill have a look at my other slips tomorrow.
Std M30.

My pina 14.2 was 2.23.

So if i managed a 1.7, in theory would my ET be 13.8?

Ive driven an S38 E30 and it easily felt the quickest e30 i've been in. I've sampled a few in my time turbo 325's, M30's with 260bhp, S50, M60b40 - this probably felt nearly on par
Was Karans old thing was a 200,000 mile 3.6 too! A good 3.8 would be even quicker so much grunt and hp a true weapon
