Quick question... Are door locks 'sided' or can I swap a complete passenger side door lock into a drivers side door?
Cheers

I am currently looking at a pair of locks from the from doors of a moor-door chromie, and they are different. The one from the driver's door has more springs and levers on...and more wear.
Schadenfreude - the German's haven't got a word for that.

Yes,door locks are 'handed'....further,they are specific to driver and passenger door.
So a LHD passenger door lock will not fit a RHD drivers door.
Driver's door lock is usually badly worn and when dismantled the locking L bar is usually in two bits, answer is a lock repair kit ordered from the stealer, about £20.This gives you all the bits to build up a new lock barrel to suit your key.
Whilst you have the door in bits, remove, clean and lubricate the latch mech as well!

Driver's door has a mechanical dead lock. Passenger side is electric.

Thought so
Not spending any money on this car, it's just a hack for driving across an airfield to recover winch cables. But we need to able to lock it and someone snapped the only key for the drivers lock. No central locking, so we will be unlocking from the passenger door and reaching across from now on.
Cheers chaps

Not a bad idea, although I can see the padlock going missing lol
Might try one of those combination bolt locks.
Just to give you an idea of the car, the locks (and doors) are from different cars, the ignition is a battery cut off and starter button (no ignition barrel and no key hence the need to lock the car) and its currently running E30 suspension on 3 corners and one E36 front strut up front as that's what I had spare!
Poor old car really, but give it its due, it starts every time the button is pushed and runs on all 6... eventually.
