Hi, I had senders installed to my m40 oil filter housing and the mechanic cracked the housing trying to fix his leaking setup. Now I ordered a new housing and will get the garage to install it (the car bled to death in their yard).
My question is, is it fair for me to ask em to pay for the new housing and the labour, or was it a bad idea in the first place to ask for that job to be done on an old lump.
I think the mechanic went spastic and tightened too hard, maybe not using the right washer?.
I just want to be fair here, its the best garage in my area...
cheers

They broke it, they pay for it! That's surely how it should be?!

Sorry to hear those senders caused you that much grief
I can imagine the mechanic didn't have an M12x1.5 tap, and instead used a similar pitch bolt to try and force his way into the hole he drilled. Result; snapped housing.
They're certainly responsible for damaging the part, and liable for costs.

that is how its going to be then, just wasn't sure it the oil filter housing could have been brittle due to age.
