I've removed the manifold on my m52 engine and 2/4 of the wires very close to the top of the lambda sensor are frayed slightly. I believe the sensor itself to be working fine but I'm wondering if I can solder a bit in both to keep it strong or if I should just get some high temp tape to cover the exposed wires.

OR change the lambda, which is the most expensive option there and the one i'd prefer to avoid if possible!

Ive found them a bitch to solder as they are nickel plated wire, you have to get it really hot which will obviously melt the insulation close by
If the damage is less than about 200mm away from the sensor I would just get another, even if you did a soldered joint any heat shrink/insulation would likely burn away after a while due to the temps.

On the next one you fit slide the heat protective cover right down to the sensor 8)
