So, it's rotten, the gearbox is shagged, engine seized, brakes and suspension with issues..............!

Guys, I am 99% sure this is the car that was for sale when i had my 525i e34. I veiwed it just after i'd bought my car, thinking I'd trade up. It is the same year and I'd remember that plate anywhere as my 525 plate ended BPF!
It was the trader that had the showroom in Reigate in the late 90's which is now a kitchen showroom. Reason I never went for it was I'd just paid £13k for mine and this was higher mileage and knocking on the door of 20 bags. It was in perfect condition then though.
I saw the car a couple of times in Godstone where I think the then owner lived. And it never went far by the looks of it. Henfield only just down the road from me.
How the mighty have fallen. My old 525 is still going strong and looks like it did back then. Peter, the guy I sold it to just up the road, has obviously cherished it a lot more than these monkeys have the M5!!!

Shame as its a epic colour combo. A lottery win could save it and about 2million man hours

The best colour combo IMO. Gaytona is a seriously nice colour when clean. Really makes Macau look what it really is. Crap!Simon13 wrote:i've just looked again at the new info and pics hes added. Thats just been run into the ground by the looks of it. Bare minimum approach

Having said that, what a great restoration project - if any car deserves to be rescued it's that. Folk spend 2-3 years rebuilding a Triumph Stag or Minor 1000 and end up with just that, a Stag or a Morris 1000.
These cars will have their day, when F10 M5's are everywhere for £3000 spares or repair. That's when your three years and 10 grand investment pay off.

True. It does make me feel kinda sad when I see cars like this in that sort of state. Must be getting sentimental in my old age.....Andyboy wrote:Having said that, what a great restoration project - if any car deserves to be rescued it's that. I wonder if he has actually tried charging the battery, before jumping to the conclusion that the engine is seized.

well the garage have fed him some tosh in someway. Would be interesting to know the cue. If you took a punt on it and the mill ran/was ok for instance or easy fix, then getting a gearbox sorted and bare minimum the rest and punt it about see what its all about.
Hartge suspension won't of come cheap on it.
Whats the extra stalk below the indicator stalk for? i've seen it before on e34's

No. A good 3.8 is still 2k as against a bag for a 3.6.
The 3.8s like to drop a valve, as did the silver touring I served to Jan, him of macau Biturbo fame .

A pile of rusty old shit?Simon13 wrote: If you took a punt on it and the mill ran/was ok for instance or easy fix, then getting a gearbox sorted and bare minimum the rest and punt it about see what its all about.
Cars like that need a full bare shell rebuild. There's no point in trying to patch it up, it's fucked. It's two or three years and 10 grand in parts to fix that, but if done right it'd be a nice car worth owning. Otherwise it will always be a patched up shitter and a waste of time.
