wasnt far off :D

i walked away, it looked well worth a look from the pics...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... TQ:GB:1123

but it was a turd, a couple of big deep scratches down the drivers side on top of door and quarter that are not shown in the pics,, sunroof panel a bit crap around the edges/seal but all inside was ok and the roof looked solid no scabs or rust, genral paint condition a bit flat but not too bad needed new roundels etc they were fooked,no nice morsels on the car at all, cracks in dash and broken sunroof winder and cracked under dash panel and some sort of broken off bracker/holder by the nearest radio side clip had been screwed in dash , door cards were ok seats wernt too bad ripped drivers base etc, needs a good clean inside, lots of the green mould around the rubber seals around the glass etc, looked like it had been sat a couple of years somewhere, not too bad as i spose as to be expected for a cheap 2 door car

now the rust fest-

some rear panel rust in the top corners at the tom jones points where the boot drainage runs meet a poke it may have gone through but seen worse, little bit around the plate lights, and the bottom where rear panel meets the boot floor was all solid, lots of condenstion/wet in the boot area- the boot well, the big round bung was fooked and a rusted, a 50p size rust hole to the side of that, and the nearest the rear bench half of the well was very flimsey you could probably stamp through it, but a nice half circle metal plate would weld in ok and not too bad to do, rear half was ok, inners and all behind the side carpets were good, the rear arches- they were good, the usual little bit of warping along the lips, but no rust or bubbling on outside, inside the rear cards the housings were all solid , didnt take the cards right out, but rear arches were generaly a solid area, a couple of spare light bulb holders in the boot you could see theyve put new ones in/had a mess about to get rear loights working for the mot

the sills were nice, it had mud flaps lifted them out a little peeked in it looked ok under them but could not see the lip edge, flaps made the jacking pads hard to have a look at the front corners but the pads looked ok from under, and original and not all fooked, little poke around they felt ok around there, but flaps would have to come off to really inspect, front wings not too bad and nice bottoms, some rust on front inners up in the corners a hole or 2 and a poke would of gone through, and some rust up to the right of battery tray, didnt take battery out but the tray looked a bit crusty and some rust there, turrets and bay looked ok really, a bit of rust on the top of the lights where bonnet stop bits are

now the pete fest :D

the carpets were damp, foam heavy with water, rear bungs had been done in the past and re sealed etc

the bulkhead deadening had been pulled away by the elephant trunk, no trunk there, but lots of rust :) !! a big hole there, worst ive seen, a classic case of a blocked trunk and water had rotted through the bottom of the trunk round hole putting a finger in and feeling down..and rotted the area right out , and a nice hole in the pass side scuttle corner at the top

didnt drive the car it was blocked in by others, but started on the button and sounded ok , didnt check the oil etc

a shame about the bulkhead and boot really, if they were solid and carpets nice and dry it would of been an ok cheap motor with some new interior bits and external trim and a little bit of paint and polishing up graft, they mentioned drifting etc, theyd probably bought it to drift and muller but thought not, i said tbh its not worth near the 650 you mention in the ad "thats cheap" he said ,i said mate its a dog look at it with some cancerous brown stuff, worth a couple of hundred due to the year mot, he looked at me like i was crazy

Nice one POlsta, enjoyed reading that, think you did the right thing, sorting bulkhead rust properly and grafting new metal inks a really big job. Interesting afternoon out though and worth the trip for the experience.

How's the tech 1 going ?

The sellers feedback tells you all you need to know :(

Bought for £100 . Decides "its too tidy to race bruv" So he gets a bent MOT and tries to have a monkey out of it. Sounds like a plan to me ! :)

Strictly speaking this is incorrect. The law requires you to display a current tax disc in the lower left portion of the windscreen when using a car on the public highway at all times, and hasn't been updated to take modern technology into account.
In most cases your confirmation email will be accepted, but if you are not displaying the disc, the crime has been committed.
I wouldn't worry too much about plod stopping me, my main worry would be ANPR, which would know that the car is taxed regardless of disc not being displayed.

How's the tech 1 going ?

was only in chi so worth a look, sometimes those without much info and pics can turn out to be the best gems, the bulkhead hole and boot were the killers of it, would need carpets out and all the rest of it, carpet foam all through was waterloogged, but thats the 1st bronzit ive seen in the flesh i think , love the color

a 318 bronzit manual, ideally pre faclift to tech 1 kit it, would be ideal to find, id just like to see a tech 1 bronzit, but then again would have to me mint paint to really look the part

my car, busting a move on now to clean and treat everything and get all ready for it comming home

just spent the last 2 afternoons cleaning all the carpets for my car, just finished, hoover+1001 shamptoo+scrubbing brush+long hose rinse until clear water runs off, its all came up pretty nice by the look of it , the boot floor carpet is well worth doing like that to see all the dirty water comming out

got about £250 cp4l/ecp order to do , which covers near all the servicing and mechanical stuff and brakes etc etc

then just need to buy the waxoyl/bilt hamber or whatever, and another £150 at bmw for all the headlight bits and a few more clips and fittings for wiring and stuff like that

anytime now il be getting that call saying its ready, gonna message him now actualy and find out the lastest

why ? i know the feedback hasnt a lot, but it doesnt show the car purchase ? i too suspected the mot, couldnt see if they were n mot shop but plenty around the road they were, didnt even drive it so cant comment on its mechanicals

car looked like it had been sat for ages somewhere with all the usual build up of mould/alge type stuff on it, for a 10 min drive its worth a gamble look

Great news, can't wait to pop over and see it, good to hear the re-build has started

P.S you know we're all going to want lots and lots of photos here, I can't remember the last time a tech1 came out a pro bodyshop with a full re-spray before. Lots of pics please

I'll never forget seeing mine for the first time at John's - i was speachless, it looked stunning, not a single swirl mark on it.

His feedback shows he is a banger racer. Have you ever met one that isn't a slippery thieving pikey type ?
I am guessing he had a ropey old 4x4 with an Irish plate and a surplus of ink :)

hes not the cheapest matty, but you get what you pay for and top quality paintwork thats always flawless and something your not just pleased but over joyed with, a few mates have used him aswell on some very nice cars, like jim says...its as good as youl get for the money and even better than a very very expensive place down the road i know that was supposed to be great

never heard of any issues with any of his work or anyone not happy either at the time or 2 years after it was done

cant wait to get the car back

Ok thanks, who's jc by the way in confused. I need a full one really, I'm lucky as can't see any rust, only the odd ding, so it should be a sandblasting down, then paint and fill any imperfections. Could they treat/paint my inner arches, its only surface rust, but I think its better to get done sooner rather than later. Ps polsta you still after any bits for your xr3? There's a,convertible mk3 at my local scrapyard, don't think its a xr3 though, can take a closer look next time if you like?

no mate i sold it last summer, thanks tho !

lol you dont sand blast a car for a re spray, you sand/rub it down, inner arches/walls need to be taken right back getting rid of all the sealant and then a good rust inspection, if you can see surface, that probably means theres some bad rust there from under then breaking through the sealant, as you dont get light surface rust on top of the sealant, sound slike maybe what you need is an expirienced local zoner, get your car up on axel stands, and have someone a proper look over and inspection rust hunt around, before thinking about paint work, have you ever had carpets out etc ?

have a good look through jims thread here at all the inside arches etc

Yes inside of the cars solid apart from a bit of surface rust on inner arches. Sorry I don't know much about spraying. :)
