Looks clean, but you'd need to see it in the flesh to gauge the quality of the paint work so that you know there's no overspray on the black bits and no nasty pitting or bubbles showing through.

The mechanicals sound very good, and the only downside will be the ride; with polybushes and 17" reps I'd expect it to handle badly and be a very jolty. Haggle him down a few hundred, and use the savings to convert back to a 15" rim, and that could be a really good motor.

its a 1989 so isnt an is, he says is due to the e36 engine, which would de-value it as its not an oem e30 engine, although better than a 318i engine it originaly had, for 2k that could buy you a nice/similar condition original standard 318is , which would be more desirable than a 318i with a latter e36 m42 conversion

but then, if its a nice clean solid shell and car and all like he says, its not over priced and it does look nice,(take on board what grmachine says about the wheels/ride) just a genuine in same condition for same price would be better

dissagree matey, a geniune for the same price would be a turd

this has had a lot of moeny spent on it which is makes it a much much better buy

nobody cares if a 318IS is genuine or not, they are not a sought after car.

you think a 318is for £2200 would be a turd ? you can pick up nice ones for that , id disagree in that the is is not sought after, nice ones never hang around for sale for long and always have plenty of interest, and can fetch £3000+ for very nice examples (sport money) , of course they are sought after

nice cars are sought after as all cars that are nice are sought after. A turdy IS is not a sought after car. a £2.2k IS would be a money pit. The car advertised here is sound buy which by the advert has plenty of life left in it. I like it but does need to be on 15" BBS

an £800 is would be a money pit, for 2k and above you would get a nice one (thats advertised and priced correctly) , i agree that looks nice, but an is the same condition (minus the re built engine) would be around the same price

Yes it is a very good buy for someone, I'm sure it needs work as they all do, but it's a good starting point.

As seems to be the general concensus on the forum, just finding an E30 with a straight and solid shell is the hard part and that's worth good money in itself. Add to that the nice bits such as what appears to be a very tidy leather interior, all the powder coated bits, a rebuilt M42 or M44 depending which E36 it came out of, all the new parts, and although it sits on Alpina reps, at least it's got nearly new Conti's all round.

I think this is easily worth 2 grand if it is what it says on the tin, iS or not

I bet he would take 2 grand for it, and i think it would be a steal at that price, but you need to make sure the engine and other work has been done properly. It's a good advert, doesn't state how many previous owners but that wouldn't put me off. I would sell the wheels on for 150, remove tyres sell for 300, put chrome kidneys back on and some 15 bbs or something more original, job done. Springs are not the best and doesn't mention what shocks its on. Find out if it has drum or disc rear and front strut size also. If its 51mm and rear discs then may be an original iS, you will be able to tell on the logbook anyway.
