Hideous. They were sh1t when they were new.
About the only BL car I'd entertain from that era would be a Dolomite - and even then it would have to be perfect. Or a Jag of course - either would probably still be a world of expensive unreliable pain

'fraid not. The 70's BL cars were just shite. Marinas still had Morris Minor suspension FFS! And all that Hydro Spastic floating about made me feel sick.
That's stunning. Last of the B series models in Tahiti blue with velours. £1200 is a bit rich - for £500 it could well find a home here. They weren't a bad old turd, a bit underpowered with the single carb 1800 mill.
Trevor - these were Hydragas, as well you know. Don't feign ignorance - we're not fooled.
I'm still waiting for my black on black 2200HLS to turn up, gold pinstripes and all.

I was, however, custodian of a certain Yellow Shepa Box van which I believe had the O series donk. An 83 on the Y, it was also crap!

Princess 2 you mean Pete?
They were launched July 5th 1978 (it was a Wednesday) so the first ones were on the S plate. You can tell the '2 externally with the lack of the 'Princess' script on the C pillar (Vinyl trimmed on HL and HLS) and front grille and flat anodised rear boot strips. Inside, it has circular instruments and faux wood veneer facia, but it's the raw power of the 1700 or 2000 OHC O Series mill that sets it apart.
Nowt wroing with Hydragas. On these the suspension was tuned to work with the tyres, 185 section radials on 4.5 inch wide steels. The recommended pressures were about 23 psi but they were bloody awful like that. Whack 30 psi in all round, transformed.
O yes.

Andy? do Chrysler Alpines get you hard? My other brother (who knew fack all about cars except how to strip threads and shear bolts!) had a hearing aid beige one.
The engine fell out at 5 ways in Croydon. Lucckily he had "forgotten" to register it in his name so left it there in the middle of the junction
He also had a Matra Rancho!!!!!
He wasn't all bad as he also had a silver Series 1 XJ6. I was however very rusty which was par for the course for his cars back then.
I caught him "draw filing" a Imps cylinder head once!!!!!
He also won a zodiac Mk4 in a card game in the North End Tavern one night. The floor was so rotten, you got queasy from the leaking nearside manifold joint. He took a girl out in it. She was sick on the A3 from being gassed. He never got the nosh he thought was on the cards and he never saw her again.
How we laughed!

My mate was/ is called dim Jim, who was your mate that done the deed ?.........
Err, it was me. It had low HyDragass one side, a smashed rear quarterlight and was filthy. I got the BL garage in Woodstock to pump it up on the way home, made a quarterlight from a bit of old perspex and minted it up. Fired it back through and it made about 800 quid. Remember it was still only 5 years old at the time!
It was beige.

Me too, I abandoned a Lancia Beta Spider, was trying to tow it home and was troubled with disaster after disaster, one example being the front suspension which turned out to be simply "assembled" not actually done up.sweep wrote:Forgotten to register it in his name...? im sure a mate of mine did this at the leicstershire services with a peugeot 405 diesel which poo'd its pants
There was more to this than I can be arsed to go into regarding the previous owner, but suffice to say, I unconnected the tow pole and car and drove home without looking back.

X5 V8 for thrills, CRV for chills, Range Rover P38 V8 for sooooo much aggravation...

My school headmaster had one of those in an awful green metallic and black vinyl roof. Even in my naive youth I knew it was utter dogsh*t.
