rebuilding m52 bottom end questions

im planning to renew the block of my m52, as i will be putting in a m54 crank and other associated parts to build a stroker.
i will be getting this done over the course of a few months but just thought id ask a few questions as im quite curious.

1) is it necessary to hone the block so the rings seat properly? ive read some info which may be misleading, but apparently this is not good for aluminium blocks

2) what would be the correct oil and procedure to run the engine in once its all ready?

3) last but not least what else should i take care of whilst the engine is apart? head skim?etc

i don't have the expertise to carry out an engine build, so im having a mate who is qualified to do it so all the info help i get will be much appreciated.

I wouldnt want to hone a nikasil block, but then I wouldnt be using one! Steel liner block or a cast iron, hone away.
You should be having the head reconditioned not just skimmed.

1) As above, get a steel linered or cast block. You need all manor of silicon pastes and special stones to hone the aluminium alloys.

2) The cheapest no make mineral oil you can find, and break it in hard, full throtle up to 3/4 of full rpm.

3)Head, get it rebuilt, as Dan says.

thanks maggspower, the block i have is a steel liner. Dan i read a post were u said you can get hold of the rings for the m54 pistons if you still can please let me know thanks again guys
