Hi all,
I'm new to both the forum and E30's and thought I would make a progress thread of my new project.
Progress will most likely be slow as I'm short on money, tools and knowledge but I'm hoping determination will see me through.

Here is the car the day after I bought it

And this is as far as I have got

I knew I wanted to do an engine conversion as the 1.8 auto was a tad on the slow side, so after a lot of searching I found an m30 conversion and on Saturday made the long trip down to Bristol to pick it up.

I knew the engine would be a fair lump but didn't quite realise the size/weight of it, just getting it out of the back of my van proved to be a mission in itself!

Not the safest way to do it but I needed it out pronto and was on my own so a bit of improvisation later and it was out.

Good luck with the conversion, it's easy enough.
Be sure to read up in the M30 section on here for wiring in a 4 pot car.

I am currently progressing through a M30 conversion. Is a great thing to do and keep at it. Is well worth it.

The only things I have so far are an m30 engine, mounts, loom, ecu, airfilter, rad, fritzbitz headers and manual gearbox, a complete E36 red leather interior, and a fibreglass bodykit that came with the car, I think its modelled on the mtec 2 kit and seems to be a nice fit but I'm not 100% on what I'm doing with this yet I will have to see how it turns out.

My plans for the car are as follows,
M30 conversion
E36 m3 front brakes, hubs etc
E36 coilovers
E36 compact rear brakes, hubs etc
E46 rack
Black headlining, doorcards and carpets
Small audio install
18's not 100% yet still deciding

NO on the 18" wheels, you'll find the car rides better on 16" wheels.

Thanks I'm sure I will need all the luck I can get!
The E30 wiki has already been an invaluable tool for me, many thanks to all involved in putting it together!
I know what your saying about the wheel's but after seeing a member's E30 with 18" CSL reps? I very much like how it sits, I guess I will have to see.

With the 18" wheels , you'll nee tyres with a Low sidewall, and due to the stiffer sidewall, when driving, it will follow the road deviations more than a 16" wheel with a higher profile sidewall.

Oh I see what you mean now, I'm sure I'll be able to compromise on ride comfort for the added aesthetic value

Mine tramlines bad enough on the 17's so I'm dropping to 16's so can't see it being a nice ride on 18's, although CSL's are a lovely wheel.

Looks a good project you got going on here though fella, be good to see the results

All opinions welcome!
However I'm only 21 so the urge to put 'Phat' wheels on still overcomes me!

Don't ruin it with 18's. The best size is 16", or maybe 17 if you want some rim to arch action without ridiculous lows.

putting E30s on 18s should never be done, theyr such a well put together car with handling as one of the top priority, putting 18s on is directly pissing in its face. 17s at a push, 16s are fine. If you put 18s on youl be chased off the zone by a mob with burning torches and pitch forks :P

TODD....... it has now been 8 days since I paid you for the M30 conversion, and since last Saturday I have not heard anything from you.

I have sent you 2 PM's and also a further 2 emails to your personal email address.

Please acknowkledge these and respond accordingly by letting me know what is going on and when to expect delivery.

I hope that this matter can be resolved quickly and no further action will have to be taken on my behalf.

Regards
CJ
