Noticed a new whining noise from the power steering the other day, had a look in the reservoir and there were lots of little bubbles in there. Below the reservoir there's a leak lower down the pipe, where it joins the pump (?) further on.

Will this air in the system do any harm?

In other words - is this one I can top up for the time being and sort out in warmer weather, or should I get the garage to do it ASAP while they sort the noisy rear wheel bearing?

:D thanks!

Power steering pipes are relatively easy to get to some one here will sell you one for cheap enough I shouldnt imagine it will cause too much damage as its a self bleeding steering rack but if you leave it it might cause stiff steering

Thanks Rory, it's a 325i.

As for the bearings, E30 Restoration Bible says, "...forget it. This is an absolute cow of a job." :?

Wiki: "Unlike the front bearings, the rears are pressed in, and changing them is considered to be a properly horrible job. Removal is normally with a hammer and chisel, while replacement will require either creative use of threaded bar to wind them in, or access to a proper press. "

Think I'll give that a miss...
