So what? People get far too up tight about e30's. They are an average car from the 80's.
Should the same people have a word with me for the full cage and other mods I have done to my low mileage sport?

E30's certainly aren't average 80s cars. They're average by today's standards, but you certainly don't see 80s Fords, Opels, Renaults, Fiats, Peugeots or even Audis on the roads from back then, in the way that you see same-period BMWs. All the other 80s cars are now Chinese washing machines.ross_jsy wrote:They are an average car from the 80's.
On the flipside, a cage in a Sport should be the defining mark of a "true" sport. All this gayness about black headlining and genuine gearknobs gets on my tits. That's only a Sport if your sport is cottaging.

The thing probably started out life as a rotten pov spec 316 anyway, I don't see the problem.
You will find that if you look at the various eastern european drift series, at least half of the cars are e30's, I presume they must be more in abundance over there, I guess they're cheap and it's a good chassis to work with

Remember chaps, there were no BMW dealerships behind the Iron Curtain. So any E30 was either bought by a Communist Party member (and therefore jealously guarded for decades) or came in as a grey import after 2004.
It's only in the last year or so that there's even been an OEM movement over here for 80s cars; we haven't got all of the tasteless modding out of our system yet.

The E30 is by no means a rare car which will only be considered rare or valuable when the demand is higher than the supply, it isn't at that stage yet. It's better for those who see the E30 as an investment (myself excluded) that more get shagged or fragged. Rare cars will still be driven hard by those who see a less than concours examples fit for that purpose, I admire people who have the balls to uprate and race vintage exotica. The car in question has at least entertained many thousands, rather one anorak with a chamois!

A BA employee in Berlin Cargo in 1991 told me that as soon as the wall came down, there were gangs roaming the streets of West Berlin stealing anything they could get their hands on, and the favourite was the E30. They dissapeared into Eastern Europe, never to be recovered. The joke at the time was:diable wrote:EFAChris_B86 wrote:The thing probably started out life as a rotten pov spec 316 anyway, I don't see the problem.

I was only saying that as a 'look' for an e30 (which I admire for it's clean lines and lovely snout) it's not up my alley. Isn't it carrying the same kit that someone trying selling on here a little while back? It didn't look all that on that machine either.
Obviously some of you wouldn't mind that graceing your driveway . . . . each to their own.

No way would I have it on my drive, it's not a good looking thing, but it's probably been fitted to accomodate a wider track and wider wheels to make it a more competent drifter. I'd say this kit has been fitted more out of function than form. As for the livery, that's got to be just to draw attention
