Is this something critical or should the hanging look like that?
I've also got a question regarding the exhaust hanger. I bet this is not how it is supposed to hang. How should I hang it the proper way?
E30 differential and exhaust hanging?

I take it the hanger is the one on the sub frame. (Big bar going across the width of the car just in front of the Differential)
Looks like the pipe isn't even aftermarket, just someone's bodged it completely
Should be a hanger on the pipe and a rubber there that looks like a number 8.

The hanger on the standard pipe quite commonly breaks loose, taking a section of the wall of the pipe with it, especially if efforts aren't made by the exhaust fitter to balance the loads taken by the various hangers. Any sign of a patch welded on the pipe?
The missing piece is essentially a length of 10mm round steel bar welded along the pipe then bent to shape to meet the rubber mount.

If you look at this exhaust pipe:

You can see the mounting arm welded on the side. This is supposed to hook onto the rubber mount you have on your car. As Brian says, it probably broke off and someone has made a very cheap repair.

Okay, is it okay to drive with the exhast like I do?
It's knocking when I'm driving on small pits.

Yeah, I can see that someone have welded a pipe before the cat.Brianmoooore wrote:The hanger on the standard pipe quite commonly breaks loose, taking a section of the wall of the pipe with it, especially if efforts aren't made by the exhaust fitter to balance the loads taken by the various hangers.
