Another M52 thread......

Well hello!

After 1 previous engine swap http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight= and about 2 years of driving a plastic E36. I've finally managed to start my M52 swap.

The car is an 1989 G reg 2 door non sunroof shell, originally a 316i Auto, so hopefully I should notice a difference with the new lump.

I've amassed the majority of parts I 'should' need for this project, so hopefully it's going to be 'plainish' sailing

Firstly there'll be a fair amount of pics to follow, then I shall provide updates as and when I have them.

The car is going to have the following components fitted.

M52 with M50 manifold with a BBTB
E36 328 gearbox
3.15/3.25 LSD
Lightened and balanced flywheel
fairly cool (purple) performance clutch
Bilstein B8 Shocks
Eibach Springs
Eibach Adjustable ARBs
M3 Eccentric TCA bushes
Rear Disc Conversion

Any hints, tips or thoughts would be appreciated

I'm being ably assisted by my mate (electrician to trade) at the moment, I did however get Danthe to chip the ECU to avoid the EWS issue . Will see how it pans out.

my best advice would be make sure you know exactly what you are doing every step of the way before you start.

and also dont buy a shit/unknown engine

i did neither of these and im still paying the price 18 months later

basically what was up was a few things all culminated into one, duff lambda sensor, sticking vanos and now i a cam sensor (according to diagnostics)... should be done by monday im hoping!

get some pics up, you will attract more people to come help you and give you advice!

Aye, there's a load of stuff in there, to be fair though he's clearing stuff out.

Took her out for a wee wash.

Also decided that whilst the car was in this condition, that it may be a good idea to have a look at the 'jacking points' which on first inspection looked not too bad...

After more seam sealing rust proofing etc, she's currently sitting like this


ready for a rub down and some lovely fresh paint over the weekend (hopefully)

can anyone advise where I can get new stickers made up???

aye I don't know who was painting it .

yup they were pretty crusty, not helped by previous 'patches'

Some more updates from over the weekend (painting wasn't done over the weekend though)

started with an empty bay, shown up above some more here.




First things first, build up struts with shiny new Bilsteins and Eibachs

going from dirty old struts and spring cups





cleaned and rust proofed




Primered




Painted and lacquered



Same treatment for the new backing plates and TCA Lollipops











Time to start building









on with the backing plates and wheel bearings



next up, start fitting the subframe that I'd had cleaned up, got strengthened and then painted, along with new Lemfoerder arms, M3 bushes, E46 rack and DanThe steering shaft, as well as some lovely shiny brakes...

Well, after a long time and a terrible lack of updates, here's some !

It's not yet finished, however it's nearly there!

Firstly, off with it's back end.

All bolted together, lovely job! I have to admit, this was however after much tutting and swearing, as I had forgotten to change the drive flanges on the diff, from e28 ones to the relevant e30 ones, then struggled to line up the drive shafts, as the trailing arms were at their fullest extent! Everyday is a school day, remember kids, jack the trailing arms up a little, it makes it easy
