I was a member of the RAC for many years and never experienced a problem with them, saying that out of 10 years being a member I think I called them out twice.

The wife has breakdown cover through her bank and I'm named on that so I ditched RAC.

If anybody uses quidco there is an AA membership that works out at about £10 a year apparently

My only experience with green flag was a call out my girlfriend made from home. Micra K10 wouldn't fire up, the monkey with a flatbed cranked the engine over for what seemed like 10 mins continuously until I told him to stop before he burns out the starter. His advice was that the engine was flooded and best just to leave it for 48 hrs  Once he left I took the fuel pump fuse out and started it in 30 seconds. I saw them as a recovery service unlike the AA/RAC who will try to get you going again.

THIS. Think I ended up paying £21 with a few extras on it.

Also worthwhile with all the major outfits...

I was with RAC a couple of years back, in the winter be ready to wait around for long periods of time though.

I had an issue with my E30 not starting and the guy didn't have a clue to why it wasn't starting and told me it was most likely the crank sensor, so that was replaced and nothing changed. Infact I used almost all my callouts in a year with them and none were able to diagnose why my car kept cutting out randomly and not starting occasionally.

Although when I had my corsa they was more then happy to come out and charge my battery after leaving the lights on in december, after waiting for 2 hours for the guy to turn up and try and sell me a new one.

Although on one occasion we received fantastic service, the guy came out quick late out night and arranged the car to be delivered to his mates nearby who could fix it for cheap by the next day.

I'd consider greenflag due to them quick response time, but that would be the only reason.
