Wiki article on M20 swaps is being written, and it needs plenty of pics. Loom, gearbox, engine mounts, the lump itself; any and everything is appreciated.

If you've written a thread about your swap and uploaded the pics there, just post the link here. If you've got your pics on your PC, PM me and I'll tell you where to email them.

Cheers guys :D

Tell me what you need and I'll get you some pics sorted as I put mine back in, engine is currently in bits and the block and head are away with DanThe.

I'm also going to do a Wiki page on the E36 rad swap since I'm running one of those as well.

Did you say you wanted something on the differences between the pre and post facelift water pipes/cooling system?

This is the swap page so far:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... Swap_-_M20

It seems there's a real need for photos of the locations of the brackets, good shots of how the coolant pipes run, and just general pics of empty engine bay, bay+lump, and then each ancillary added as it goes.

Considering you've done this swap, what's your opinion? Fit the brackets before the lump goes in, or after?

Expansion mount type will depend on whether it's pre or post facelift, this was one of the deciding factors why I went for an E36 rad, no need to for this bracket.

I'm yet to fit the airbox mount but will be measuring up the location on a car on Sunday. I can do pics for the relay mount, think it's only 318iS's that haven't got that from memory and the airbox mount is only missing on carbed cars. As for when to fit the brackets, due to their locations it doesn't really matter when you fit them, maybe best to do it when the engine is in so you can trial fit the associated parts to the mounts and then mark up the locations, ideal if you haven't got access to take measurements from another car.

I'm toying with the idea of fitteing mine as a bare engine (with exhasut manifold fitted) and then adding the inlet manifold and ancillaries after so I can do pictures as I progress if you like. Not sure when this will happen though as it all depends on when I get the engine back.

No dramas. The pictures can always be added later anyway.

Good shout on the brackets. I've mentioned using the iS radiator to avoid the header tank and mount, but didn't think M10/M40 cars had the relay bracket already. And RealOEM is showing up the same part number for all cars for the air filter, and yet this forums filled with comments that the bracket needs to be "modified"

My 316 has the relay bracket and since the M40 use M1.3 I would expect they have them to, it's a long long time since I've looked at an M40 I can't remember, same for the M42 but a trawl through the forum or Google for a picture should answer that.

I guess the iS rad could be used, don't think it's much different to the E36 rad apart from maybe being smaller.

Like I said on the other thread, I'll check whether the two types of airboxes fit the mount I have, the inner wings never changed so that can't be a reason for having the modify them :?

Had a quick Google now work has tailed off, 318i's and 318iS' don't appear to have the relay mount.

Yeah, I went scouting around the images, and either they're all too blurry or everyone takes their pics from the same side, obscuring the passenger inner wing. P!sses me right off.
