Hi all
Am looking at an e36 compact that is Cat C beyond economic repair- basic panel damage
I was looking to frag it, but as its got a decent donk and the rest looks solid, what would have to be done to get it back on road
Its sorn with no MOT, would an MOT remove the marker as a roadworthiness check?
Stu

They dont check the quality of the repair (which is crazy IMO)
Stands for: Vehicle Identity Check.

no damage to wheels
the M43 sounded (to me after 3 years of M40 ownership) pretty quiet too-
on the fence on this one, have to sleep on it

If its under £500 then I dont see how you can go wrong, a VIC check is £30 odd and takes 10 minutes

I have a very tidy '99 compact . She is the later 1900 big block. Proper motorsport spec, Silver with no sunroof. It has solid outer balljoints, M3 bushes, head gasket done , recent discs and pads. Needs a clean, a screen and the MOT has lapsed. £500 buys it .

if you got your logbook when you bought it, you can probably carry on taxing it - when a car usually becomes a cat c - the insurance company usually takes away the logbook forcing you to get a vic to apply for a new one - looks like you were lucky as usualDanThe wrote:My daily E34 was written off CAT C 3 years ago due to a dented door and rear arch, I was told id need to have a VIC test before I could tax it again but ive been taxing it at the post office every year without problem

it all depends on if the logbook changes hands, if he sends the logbook off to transfer onto his name then he,l receive a letter from DVLA telling him to go get a VIC check done before he receives the logbook. (ex recovery driver transported plenty of cat Cs for vic, in the past).
