Need some help guys.

I'm fitting new rear back plates, and as you know, you have to pull the hub.

My question is how do you do it? The only way I can think of is attach a slide hammer and pull it, or bang it out from the back.

Once the drive shaft is out the way is there anything which holds it in or is it just a question of brute force?

just brute force tbh, which will 99.9% of the time knacker the bearing.

either a slide hammer bolted to the hub, or a drift on the centre of the hub smacked from the back.

once the hub is free you need to take the big circlip out and then knock the rest of the bearing out.

have fun :D
cheers,

You can usually knock them out from the back with a good hit from a 4Ib lump hammer and appropriate drift.

The heavier the hammer and the better the contact and drift, the easier it'll come out. You'll be there for a while with anything less than 2Ib IMO.

Take lots of pics and do a write up for the wiki. Don't think it's covered yet in there.

Yea the inner race from one side of the bearing will guarantee to come out with your hub.

I had to slice across the inner race and split it with a cold chisel to remove the part of the bearing that will be attached to your hub.

If the bearing splits (almost certain) and you've got a bearing puller, you can pull the inner race. I repack it with grease and reassemble it if the dust sheild is undamaged.

And if I want to torque down comfortably

And my method for pulling the hub is to place the silver part of the puller between the hub and brake backplate (brakes removed), put some old long wheel bolts into the holes in the hub and tighten the bolts, it pulls the hub from the bearing and off the driveshaft at the same time.
