When I removed that deadening it looked as though it had just been painted and polished, no sign of rust or wax of any kind so I left it.

I take no credit for yesterdays progress Andy - Jim and Dave got stuff done so quick I could hardly keep up with them.

Hoping to have it taxed April 1st now but thats being optimistic I think :D

Stick with that date. You've sailed through this project... I'd still be looking for suitably flat bit of ground on my drive to put the car up on stands..

That is ambitious with everything your planning to get done underneath. Get some if that dinitrol stuff in the back of the glovebox bracket before you out that back in and some around the the main wiring loom hole above it. Also want some inside the scuttle areas at a later date.

Hope no one could hear us fitting that bloody carpet :D I'm not doing that on a car with aircon ever again!!!!!

I can beat you all on stupidity, forgot to fit the release bearing one time I was swapping M42s, didn't realise until I fired it up and went to put it in gear, the decker was sat on the dash right in front of me! :o: :x

Yep I think May is more likely - but we'll see :D

I was trying to explain to Nancy how funny it must have sounded to my dads neighbours when the carpet went it

Small update, been busy as usual and lost my motivation with the car a little lately, but its amazing how a box of shiny bits arriving from the stealers can relight the flame!

These just turned up 8)

Image

I ordered new locks, seals, badges and lock covers for the Alpina's, thank god I have a friend in a BMW parts dept as the retail prices are ridiculous!

Also ordered a Diamond black Aerosol, some odd nuts and clips and a new cover and breather hose for the rear vapour tank.

Not very exciting but enough to get me down the garage tonight and cracking on!

I love getting a delivery of clear bags with part numbers and BMW stamped on them.. Almost more than driving the car itself.. Nice to see an update :D

All part numbers -

Alpina 7j & 8j lock set - 91 47 3 613 127 = £98.42

Large 'O' ring - 91 47 3 613 111 = £3.82 each

Small 'O' ring for lock cap - 91 47 3 613 115 = £2.82 each

Lock cover - 91 47 3 613 109 = £4.78 each

Alpina hub badge - 91 47 3 613 005 =£8.20 each

You get 4 keys with the lock set.

Thanks Kieran,

My lock set is 91473613127 - is that correct for 7J & 8J? I ordered them from your part numbers above actually! but only just noticed you had to return them and swap for different number (ending 119?)

Yeah the 127 part number is the right one for the staggered set up.

I bought the locks for the 7's and the didn't fit the staggered set.

Another little update,

I've decided to hold off on the full underneath resto for now, as much as I want to do it now I just know once we start it, realistically the car won't be on the road for summer, and I really just want to drive her again! So I've spent a few nights in the garage this week rustproofing the welded areas and getting ready for the kit to go back on tomorrow.

Kedge sourced a decent aircon valence for me, which I've painted and stonechipped, pretty happy with it!
Image

The dash is now back in place, everything wired up and seems to be working ok. (370mm Tech 1 now fitted too)
Image

I've got another load of bits coming from the dealer next week - mainly nuts and bolts for front arms, arb links/bushes etc, new accelerator cable, pedal rubbers and throttle pedal too.

This also turned up today, thanks to Danthe
Image
Image

Which should fit nicely alongside a nice these - new clutch, master and slave cylinders. Also got a Goodridge clutch line on the way
Image

The car is now insured (Pete Best are fookin cheap!) and should be on the road this weekend, it'll come off the road again for winter and thats when I'll be getting the TFR and scrubbing brush out!
