320i Reservoir

Hi folks

Doing a bit of work on the car today, checked fluids etc. There's a resevoir on the drivers side towards the back of the engine bay and it says ATF fluid only. The car has a manual gearbox. Is this for gearbox oil??

There's no mention of this reservoir in the handbook.

Whatever it is I'd better top up as it's on minimum at the moment

Only reservoir at the back on the driver's side is for the clutch hydraulic fluid. Should be full on nice golden coloured DOT 4 brake fluid.
The OE cap on these reservoirs is made to a standard that is well below that which you would expect to find on a BMW, and are easily split or cracked, so maybe someone has put on a cap from another car.
Three or four of my E30s sport a cap that was originally in a BL Metro.
