Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has access to the above and can give me the prices stated for a '92 (K Reg) 318i Lux Auto Cabby???
Insurance co still pissing about, although I have managed to find out what their next offer will be!!!
Would just like to know what the guide's say, so I know what I might be able to argue them to pay!!!
Also, don't think it takes into consideration on them, but the car had leather, alloys, average + condition paint, excellent mechanical condition, well maintained etc!!!
I don't really want guesses, just any published prices/guides I could refer them to!!!
Thanks,
Rob.

glass/parkers state on their website, that their guides are not to be used to value cars 91/92 or older IE: Classic cars.
Had exactly the same with my insurance trying to value my car through parkers as an e36, if they insist on using parkers ask them to provide the information from it, they are using to value your car, they wont be able to as it doesnt exist
the best way is to use, ebay, auto trader etc use cars similar to your own

Best thing you can do is search for forsale adverts for similar cars to put forward to the insurance company. Also bear in mind they value e30s only marginally higher than the Chinese!

Looking at car and classic, autotrader and pistonheads there is nothing particluarly similar to your car and spec for sale at the moment.
You could try basing it on the 320i cabs that are for sale but it looks lke anything from £500 to £5000 based on current cars for sale.

Cheers guys - thought parkers didn't go back that far but didn't know about glass' and hadn't thought of them comparing it to an E36!!!
I will definately ask them to provide the info of where/how they got their price - but I suspect they will say that its based on their engineers assessment!!
Been looking through ad's and seen a couple similar(ish) - none less than £2995 in a realistically comparable condition!!!
Kedge: reckon you're right - they value it just above a chinese meal I think!!!
I'd have been better off negociating directlt with the 3rd party company!!!
My company have already spent over £20k on a courtesy car, which will be billed to the 3rd party!!! Sickening.
No wonder insurance prices are all f**ked.
Think I'll be sending a letter to the ombudsman, regardless of the final outcome.

A bill that kind of figure is easily done, mine was just under 30k. New car equivalent to yours at weekly (high) rate until the disputed claim is settled.

If you play your cards right yes, in my case the other party,s insurance was dragging their heels so i had a new m sport e90 for 4.5 months until they settled. Only bad point is the come down when they take it back lol.

How much did you pay for the car and how long have you had it ? Surely this will be a basis for a settlement figure ?

In my case the other party's insurance took forever to inspect my car and make an offer, the car still drove all lights worked etc but no one would (the repair shops, bmw, third party's insurance) give me clearance that the vehicle was safe to still use for me and my family, so my broker got me a like for like until it was sorted.

18 months ago my 325i cabriolet was written off by someone rear ending me.
Their insurance offered me £1000. I sent them 5 adverts from Autotrader showing simlar cars ranging between three and five thousand.
They changed their offer to three and a half thousand which I accepted and kept the car.
You have to do the leg work for them. Get onto Autotrader.

Car insurance companies have a product all good and well which serves a purpose but I don't like the way
They don't use genuine parts; inferior repair techniques; short cuts; poor valuation figures
This was on a TV programme recently
My insurance company gave me not a great value when I insisted I wanted it taken to BMW which is what I pay my premiums for.
The third party bang wheels with me removing some paint work because he did not look in his blind spot and damaged the rear axle. So the actual cost to me is ££££ when my insurance payout was just under a grand.

I don't quite get that one. My broker said go and get 2 quotes as quick as you can, i went to bmw and another top body shop that use only genuine parts. Both quoted to repair the car ( repair cost more than actual value of the car) thus it was a write off. My broker said i had the right to get it repaired/quoted x2 where i wanted and to have a like for like vehicle until the claim was settled, and thats what happened. I probrably pay a bit more on the policy going through a traditional broker as opposed to online, but when something goes wrong as i found out it was happy days in the end.
