i put 225x45x17on mine by mistake and they were far to high, looked rediculous in my opinion, changed back to 205x40x17 next day, yours would be in between but still a bit high.id go for the 205x40 :D

My reps on fitted with 215/45 + h & r cup kit but retaining the standard 325 sport springs on the rear, gives a totally level appearance not the usual tyre disapearing behind the bodywork look, absolutly no rubbing issues.

If your interested let me know and i'll try to get some Photo's.

Sorry, but are your figures for tyre sizes changing the outside diameter? Surely this has to be the same for all e30's for gearing, speedo etc etc? (im probably missing something here but dnt know much about tyres  )
Sory i know this is a bit off subject.

When you guys say too big, do you mean too high in profile or too wide for the drop?

Depends what you want really, I have 205/40 but I reckon 215/40 would be much better IMO.

if you go from a 205 to a 215 tyre it will have no impact whatsoever on your speedo. you would need to change the height of the tyre ie from 40 to 45 to alter the speedo.

mrlee the 40 or 45 or whatever is the profile not the height...e.g. in a 215/40/17 tyre (which, incidentally, is the *correct* tyre size for normal-width 17s on an e30, to keep the speedo accurate) the height of the sidewall is 40% of 215mm, i.e. 86mm.

So yes increasing the profile will increase the sidewall height, but so will increasing the width but keeping the same profile.

I just had to put 205/40/17 tyres instead of 215 profile. My 215/40/17 were rubbing just on the front at full lock and the rears were rubbing in the arches whenever i accelerated hard or had passengers. I am running 35mm lowering springs all round on standard shocks so maybe with harder shocks you'd be ok. I have no rubbing problems now with my 205/40/17 on alpina reps and i reckon the fraction i have lost off the side wall by going to a 205 looks a lot better too
