Hi guys,

just looking for a bit of advice, I'm changing from drums to discs at the rear, and was wondering if anyone could advise if the rear hubs are interchangeable?

Thanks,

Jp

Cheers Miles, did you bolt on complete trailing arms?

I've got trailing arms for discs ready to have the bits bolted up, I was just going to press out the hub/flange from the drum. Then press it into the disc trailing arm.

Thanks,

Yep used a replacement set of arms which came with driveshafts and discs. The arms are either drum or disc specific because of the caliper carrier bolt holes.

I found it a pig of a job! Took my rear beam off and did the bushes at the same time.

Cool beans man, I shall investigate further :)!

I've got a spare beam to bolt the arms to before putting them on the car :)!

Cheers again.

Are you doing it on your own? Its all bloody heavy and awkward.i put the subframe on then the diff, then the arms.the drivers side needs the petrol tank hose temporarily off as its in the way of an arm bolt. Loads of threads with more advice around.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking? I've narrowed it down to these three options:

1. You want to know if the hub flange is useable on either set up
2. You want to know if you can press out the bearing from the drum set up and use it in the disc set up
3. You want to know if the arms are interchangeable.

Sorry guys, I've never been good at conveying my thoughts in words! :)!

Thankfully I'm not doing it alone, have my brother and a couple of mates to help!

It is indeed heavy, awkward work. We've done a straight rear end rebuild disc to disc before.

You've hi the nail on the head there Capn' I'm looking to find out Number 1 :)!

I've got disc arms ready to go with new bearings in them (answers 2 and 3)

Thanks guys,

Jp

The part numbers are different between an 86 316 and 325, but I don't know if that's due to ABS.

The ABS is triggered off the driveshaft not the hubs on the rear.

The hubs are different between disc and drum.

The hubs are different between disc and drum.
The abs arms are different to non-ABS as they have the mounting points for the ABS wheel sensors
Ahhh yes, good point! It wasn't possible for ABS to be fitted to cars with rear drums was it?
