Brake light and side light are two seperate bulbs,so which one is it?

Check light,is it brake light, number plate light or side light being indicated?

Welcome to the zone,BTW! :D

Sounds like you may have discovered the E30's parking light function! Is the indicator stalk off?

Sounds like a short on the wiring keeping the light on. Have you checked that the brake lights actually work when u press the pedal.

A.
First check that the brake lights actually work when u hit the pedal
there is a switch under the dash on the brake pedal cluster, check that out first, if its contantly open ur tail lights will be on constantly.

also check the wiring to the rear light cluster, it could be possible you have the wrong bulb in there, the E30 does not use a dual filament bulb, if someone put a dual filament unit in it will cause the light to short.

Ahhhhh That's interesting, surely if was brake switch would be both , dual filament? Hope it is that lol

Gonna sound "dim" (get the pun) but what does a dual filament look like?

Thanks for patience

it has 2 sets of contacts on it. Unlike the traditional single contact.

OK went for a cigarette, its sidelight bulb , not dual filament, same wattage as one on other side , indicator not on, brake lights work, not a brass bulb
