i am getting weird signs from my alternator and i think its had it..
i have a voltage reader in the car and when i start the car the reader
shows the battery output at 10.6/7 but when i begin to drive and rev it to about 3000 rpms, the reader shows the battery output at 11.6/7ish
but when i go to about 5000-6000rpms the voltage reader gets to the point where it should be at which is 13.6..
if i dont rev it much it and drive slowly the output of the battery does not rise and i can also tell as it is not charging my battery and the lights dim out etc
any ideas as i have checked the wiring etc
Alternator low output

It sounds like the regulator on the altenator might be on its way out.

is that something that can be repaired or best to replace the alternator?

Easy to change or check - just undo the obvious nuts/screws on the back of the altenator.
You'd probably be able to get a good second hand altenator for less than the price of a new regulator pack though.
If you go for an exchange altenator, make sure you remove the pulley from the old one before you exchange it - they don't normally come with a pulley fitted.
