anyone tried removing this comedy 80's security nastiness or how woold you go about it obviously without damaging the glass further ,i've got x2 ideas but not sure if it's gonna do the trick .
i could just stick some e30zone.net stickers on but that's choice number 3 right now.

I managed to sand the grinder chips outta my windows with fairy liquid and 1000 grit, sure it would take that shite off. Youd obviously need to polish the glass afterwards.

Well thats what iv yet to figure out, I havnt polished mine yet. The scratches left are very small and should come out easy, aslong as you used the finest grit you had. Probably the best option is to wait until I polish mine to see if they come out
Dont steam in with sandpaper incase it turns out iv ruined my glass and youve followed me down the same route. Il probably try polishing this weekend and will get back to you

I think you have the right idea verde, may be start with even finer grit paper first. 2000 grit.
You can get this: http://www.frost.co.uk/windscreen-scratch-repair.html
Which will obviously work, but what about some cutting compound, G3 or the like, I think that would work a treat on a polishing mop, as long as the scratches left are not too deep.
Mick I dont think AG glass polish would have enough "cut" you need something with an abrasive quality to it.

I like having mine, despite the car being on a private reg. Shows that the car has original glass.

You want to do it the other way round I reckon, 2000, then g3. Or even start with 1000 or 1500. The abrasive needs to get finer and finer as you progress towards polishing.magpie wrote:i think i'll hit it with some g3 first as mentioned above then try the 2000 grit

These are usually sandblasted into the glass, so I would be very surprised if you can get rid of it, you would have to polish the surrounding glass down to the same level which I cant see happening.
Other option is mask around the letters and give it some more sandblasting

Many years ago, I made an appreciable part of my income by reconditioning and selling a particular model of television sets.
A lot of these sets would arrive with scratched screens, and I spent many happy hours with glass polishing gear removing these scratches. However well you polish it, the fact remains that you are removing material and effectively forming a concave lens, so you always get optical distortion where you've been working.
The same would apply to car window glass, which is why it's better to try to produce a nice neat rectangle of frosted glass, rather than a distorting area of clear glass.
