just been drafted in to restore a diamond black bmw e30 325 sport cab for my friends boss. my mate put my name in the mix when his boss showed him his beloved e30 sayin i was the man for the job since i just finished rebuilding mine and sold it.
the car has been off the road for 12 years dry stored for 10 of them, the roof is very badly split and worn and the interior needs serious cleaning but structuraly the car looks 8 out of 10, they want me to just batter away and get it back to useable condition.
they have owned it since new i think and it has seen most of europe apparently so has sentimental values.
anyway first things first before i can start work on it i need to get into the engine bay but for some reason the catch wont work so anyone want to pm me a way to get into this. the cable is attached and pulls but to no avail.
new project as a job

If the cable is still attached have you tried having someone try and lift the front of the bonnet while you pull the lever, it could just be the spring which makes it 'pop' has seized.
I'll assume Shaz has pm'd you about how to manually work the catch. Once you realise how simple this is you'll probably want to find a way to prevent others being able to do it

If it's diamond black I'll doubt it'd be a "sport" convertible. In fact there was no such thing.
There was however, a "Motorsport" convertible but they never came in diamond black.
If you've been drafted in to "restore it", best to know exactly what it is your dealing with I always think.

B7's Motto. "If it's French, BURN IT!!!!!!"
went and seen it yesterday and its no sport anyway as has no bodykit, however has fancy leather bucket seats only seating 4 look like sport seats to me, it is black but is there more than one kind of black? looks like it just a 325 cab.
need to get the 3 inch of dust off it and get in about it.
bonnet trick doesn't work it is seized solid and he said there was problems opening an closing it years ago so something could be damaged or bent. i got the headlights and grills off so could i just either remove the 2 bolts for the catch or remove the 2 hinge bolts on each side of the bonnet to get the bonnet open or off?

Early "Motorsport" convertibles with metal bumpers did not come with any kit in the first place. It was an optional extra in Tech 1 form.e30mtech wrote:went and seen it yesterday and its no sport anyway as has no bodykit, however has fancy leather bucket seats only seating 4 look like sport seats to me, it is black but is there more than one kind of black? looks like it just a 325 cab.

Believe me. 100% the car will not be a "sport"! But it may be a motorsport convertible if you are lucky. Any extended leather perhaps as I'm thinking it's not black but could be Macau blue but in dark conditions and coverered in shite?
These "fancy" bucket seats only seating 4? I think you'll find thats standard in any convertible.
