Fired it up for 2 mins and revved it, my monthly ritual to keep it happy. Wish i'd spotted this thread last month when I replaced my subframe bushes, trailing arm bushes and did a disc conversion. All thanks to the zone!
Looks like it not going back on to the roadfor a while, just bought some used gaz coilovers so need to trailer it to the new house.
haven't driven since Christmas 11...

I always think its amazing how much of a mess you can make the car look by simply taking out the dash. Great work mate

Tell me about it! A job i did not fancy doing but think it would be too much of a shame to finally get it on the road again with the cracked dash staring at me forever lol. The alarm and radio wiring were a mess and i needed to install some external guages/ews wiring too so had to be done sooner or later. I see yours is coming on well Jim you turned a big corner (all the rot sorted) and its coming together fast. Hat off to you bud, keep it up.(you'll be bored once its done i expect) lol.

Yesterday, I changed the spark plugs, filled up the screen wash, topped up the coolant (grrr) and enjoyed the trip back from the petrol station with no damn lights on the CCP.
Plugs seem to have sorted the cold misfire which has crept in since the blue temp sender was changed. So Far.

Cleaned it for the first time in about 6 weeks. Poor old thing was filthy but its gleaming now - Autogylm HD wax to thank for that. I last waxed it about 5 months ago but this stuff is really long lasting. Will be driving up to Scotland in it next week, a 400 mile trip! Fitted some new Bosch wiper blades. The winter tyres and bottletops are on (ride comfort is immense on 70 profile tyres!). Just need to fix the slightly intermittent passenger side speaker and we'll be ready to go.

Attempted to fix my leaky near side window on the convertible by realligning the window only to discover that the door was probably misaligned as it had been replaced at some point (joy of buying a car with no paperwork!).....
...having tinkered with the door/windows for 5 hours its only SLIGHTLY worse than before

True, all corners and roundabouts have to be taken at very sedate speeds! The car also looks hilarious sporting 175x70x14 rubber. Rides nicely though and they've coped well with all the snow we've had this year. They're very quiet too (Goodyear Ultra Grip 8s). Tyre noise is non-existant compared to my summer Vredestein Sportrac 3s.Morat wrote:70 profile cruise tyresthey're a bit soft in the corners, I will admit!

Michelin Alpin here, but yes - fantastic in the cold/snow/wet. 35mm drop and 70 profile tyres, it shouldn't work but somehow it does

Adjusted the handbrake so now when I 'rip the e-brake' I can pull some wikkid drifts...or so now it will pass the MOT required levels of hold.
Cleaned the ICV and TPS with carb cleaner.
Went to fit the temp sensor I ordered on next day only to realise I'd been a retard and bought the brown one not the blue one...ordered a blue one.
Hopefully this will bring down the idle and mean CO levels are good for the MOT.

Adjusted driver's seat two clicks forwards. Can reach the pedals now.
Going to adjust the rear view mirror at the weekend. If that goes well, I'm going to do the two door mirrors too.
Is the a wiki on this? I've done a search but can't see anything.
PS: anyone in the Greater Manchester area who can help re-set the clock to daylight saving? Or a Zoner who could pop by.
I'll buy them a beer!

Finally got round to the car this morning! Unfortunately didn't get much done due to mates Octavia leaving a big oily hug all over the driveway
Just some of the things I pulled out of my back passage

Tried the style 15's on as i've had them sitting... meh!!

The middle rubber mount and two rear brackets on my exhaust broke away this week. So whilst fixing that decided to pull off the rear section this morning, to inspect it and in an attempt to weld a new new tail pipe on as one had rusted off.
Got stumped at the very rusted bolts connecting the front and rear sections. Now am contemplating buying a dremel today to get the bolts out.. or just to leave it on for now, sort the brackets and bodge it back together.
Looking at the rear section it poorly made, so might get a new rear box for it later in the year before its MOT is due.

Welded the broken brackets (first proper go at welding, I hope they hold), put a new rubber ring on the middle mount and popped it all back in this morning. Discovered that the pony brackets that are holding the crap exhaust are fouling the well for the spare wheel, has worn through to the metal and started to rust.. So going to order a Eberspacher rear system soon and sort the rust whilst changing it..
More a case of what have I done in the past week than the past day!
Took the 320i on a 1200 mile round trip to Scotland and back, via Yorkshire on the way home, and it didn't miss a beat. The E30 had always been our second car but after getting rid of our E46 its been pushed into more regular service. This was the first trip of over 150 miles I've done in it and I was left thoroughly impressed by the old barge. The first stretch was a 400 mile drive from Norwich to the Leny Estate in the Trossachs National Park, just past Callander. Excluding a couple of stops, this took about 8 hours (OBC fuel consumption reading 36.6 mpg - I know these are a little bit optimistic but I expect we averaged low 30s which isn't bad at all for a 6 cylinder donk designed 30+ years ago!). Stayed 4 nights there in the absolutely lovely North Wing of Leny House - thoroughly recommended if you're ever staying in this area. Winter tyres coped fantastically well and we never came close to getting stuck, even when touring snow covered mountain roads around Loch Lomond and Loch Katrine. Time out of the car was mainly spent hiking and enjoying several pub lunches!
After 4 nights we moved on to a nice converted barn in Yorkshire for 3 nights with stunning views over the dales. The E30 was again superb, silky smooth and just a hoot to drive over some of the more hilly roads. More hiking and pub lunches followed before returning to Norwich yesterday. A fantastic week had by all and the best part of 1200 miles added to the E30 at an average of 35.3mpg. When we arrived in Yorkshire the car finally made it through the 100,000 mile barrier. Whilst I had no doubt it would be ultra reliable as it always has been, it was a very pleasant surprise how well it held its own against more modern repmobiles over such a long journey - refined, reasonably quiet (a new driver's door seal would make it perfect!), quick enough when needed and a smooth turbine-esque M20 running under the bonnet. Enjoyed it so much we're aiming for a repeat trip in October.
Didn't see one other E30 on the road though or any E28s, E32s, E34s etc
I'll be giving it a very deserved clean at some point today.

Drove it, used the practicality of it:

Started snowing here on my way home, was f'ing cold (despite the heater being on, so much wind and stuff).
