Soooo

Both of my valves have failed, but a quick visit to my local dealers has sourced two new ones :D

We're talking number 15 on this

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=61&fg=45

Whilst the driver side looks easy to swap, I have concerns about replacing the passenger side one.

Has anyone any advice about replacing the passenger side one?

What are the most hassle free things to remove to do this?

TIA

i take it you have abs fitted ,if you can't get to the valve by removing the headlight backing plate in the engine bay then try by removing the grill then the headlight for easy access :D

happy crimbo hun.

Blimey Mick. Don't be posting links like that. The real deal cost me over twenty quid at BMW

I do indeed have ABS fitted, and removing the headlight backing plate on the passenger side doesn't allow me enough room to swap out the valve.

I'll look at your suggestion.

Happy holidays to you too :D

Hummm, pulling the headlight frame out would be my method of attack,I feel.

But there again,I've failed the domestic heating test this Christmas,so perhaps best to ignore me! :D

And here is how you replace the one way valve on the passenger side with a car fitted with Headlight Wash Wipe system. . . . . . . .

Pop open the bonnet, and remove the three trim clips holding the headlamp surround in place, along with the two self - tapper screws (lower down on the grill).

Remove headlight wiper blade element - pop the central cover up to expose the small nut. Remove this using the smallest spanner in your BMW tool kit. This will allow you to pull off the wiper blades. It may take some Wd40 and swearing to achieve this bit.

Carefully ease the headlamp surround away from the lights and off the wiper blade spindle. The surround will still be attached by the tube feeding liquid to the wash element of the surround, so be aware of this.

Ease the pipe under the spindle, and under the headlight itself (you're effectively working right to left here). This will give you enough space to remove and replace the valve.

Route the pipe back to where it was, replace headlight surround, wipers, close bonnet, feel smug. :D
