Nope, you will need to get the spring from the steelers.

As mentioned below is a cheap part from the steelers and you might as well replace it while your changing the belt and tensioner form piece of mind.polsta wrote:is this spring needed for a cambelt change or just if old one is worn/missing ?Rtaylor2208 wrote:Nope, you will need to get the spring from the steelers.

The spring is only used to push the tension wheel onto the belt when replacing the belt, once it's in place you tighten the 2nd bolt in the sloted hole which locks the tension wheel in place. The spring is doing nothing then. I can only assume the spring is designed to apply the right amount of pressure on the belt.

If the spring is missing, then pin 19 is probably missing as well.Idol wrote:Nice one, I looked at this diagram earlier and thought it must be here, but just couldn't see it, but I was looking on the iPhone! The reason they go AWOL is that it's a pain changing the water pump with the fixed end of the spring pushing it out of line when you're trying to line the bolt holes up with their threads and keep the gasket in place.

Long nose self locking grips ftw! If the spring is missing, you need to take it all apart to check for other craftsmanship.

Second that - the "specialist" who did my head gasket swap obviously didn't tighten the head bolts up properly (or even at all).Andyboy wrote:Long nose self locking grips ftw! If the spring is missing, you need to take it all apart to check for other craftsmanship.
Oh, dear, I ask myself, why am I still losing water?
It's cos the f*****g head isn't bolted on!!!!!!!
And yeah, the spring was missing....
