Back again got a grinding noise from the heaters when I turn them on some heat blows out but not very much I was given a new heater blower with the car but could be something else ? Also I seem people use an access panel in the bulk head can I remove it from here or will I need to go in from the dash ? Thanks guys :)[/i]

Fan is accessed via the bulkhead panel in the engine bay, pop the cover, disconnect the wiring, unclip the fan and remove. Best to apply 3 in 1 oil to the bearings and leave to soak for as long as possible.

Plenty of pics using the search facility.

From thewiki:

Heater Blower

In order to move the air around the cabin you need a form of fan, which in the E30 is called the Heater Blower. Rather than a bladed fan like an aeroplane's propellor, the heater blower looks like an old paddle steamer with two bladed wheels. These are driven by a centrally-mounted motor, and then the whole assembly is mounted on to the top of the heater matrix. As a unit, it's accessible from the engine bay, where it sits just behind the bulkhead covered by a panel in the scuttle. There is no need to dismantle the interior of the car to access it.A variety of blowers were fitted during the lifetime of the E30. Facelift motors (1987 onwards) are different from pre-facelift, and aircon motors are different from facelift. However, facelift aircon fans are very similar to the pre facelift version, and are possibly identical. This is very important when sourcing a replacement, since there is no chance of fitting a pre facelift motor and fan to a non aircon facelift heater box.

I've got a similar problem but mine works generally okay, but whistles a lot, or squeaks sometimes, could the oil be the solution to this problem as well?
Thanks

Worth giving it a blast with WD40 / 3-In-1 to see if that fixes it.

One of mine was only working at full speed on 4 and about half speed on 3, nothing on 1 or 2. My spare was running full speed on 4, slower on 3, slower on 2 and not on 1. Gave them both a good blast and soaking with a can of oil and it appears that my original was just knackered but the spare now works properly on all 4 speeds.

The only down side is you get a strong whiff of WD40 in the cabin for a bit. :D

The job can't be done properly without taking the motor out and powering it up in your hand with a battery. Free it up with WD40, then lubricate properly with a light oil, moving the shaft from side to side to work the fluids in.
