Started getting a bit of noise the other day and now it's constant and much worse. Sounds like something is rubbing on the disc but can't get the wheel off to check until Friday afternoon or Saturday. I doubt anything is catching though, what is there to catch? If the bearing has gone I'd need a garage to swap it. Are they meant to be a bit of a biatch to get out? I'm just weighing up the cost against getting some cheap 5 stud wheels and getting my m3 front setup on the car. Any advice?

Checked your brake pads lately? Could also be something stuck between the shield and the disc.
A failed wheel bearing normally whines rather than sounds like something rubbing, however an E30 front bearing is fairly easy too change.
Remove the centre nut, put the wheel back on, then pull/twist the wheel, and the hub should come off, hopefully complete with inner race.
The whole hub is replaced (no separate bearing), so it's then just a matter of fixing the new one on.

Thanks, The weather looks ok for tomorrow so will hopefully get chance to whip the wheel off after work and investigate.
