black carpet dye

Enyone used a fabric dye for the carpet or enything? If so what one have you used? Ive come across a pic where some matey boy did his e30 carpet black..after 2 going overs it looked spot on

I used valeters pride dye and it was really good. It was almost perfect after 1 coat of brushing it in with a nail brush but 2 coats for longevity.

I've just done 3 coats of this on my beige carpet and now its nice and black, mine was 20 quid for 5 litres I think, I'll try get photos up soon, finished it today and carpet looks brand new and covered all marks, stains etc.

It was actually 28.50 including postage, i bought it off eBay. I'll try put some photos on tonight.

funnily enough i used a small paint roller to get it on, then a scrubbing brush from the kitchen sink, to get the paint deep into the weave, otherwise you end up with a carpet that looks like all patchy, i have been told sponging it works well too. I used all 5 litres. Are you dyeing yours the same colour or different? I used about 3 coats.

My interior looks factory fresh now, as patched the leather seats and door cards up with leather dye too. Best to take the carpet out to do it, so you can inspect floor pans and inner arches for rust and see if any damp is getting in the car. Depends if you can be bothered though, i couldn't so got my brother to do ita˜Š. Accelerator pedal is the hardest bit to get carpet over, i can talk you through removal if you like, wish i'd treated my arches and waxoyled it now, as don't fancy removing them again, they were pretty good though, just a little surface rust.

Ok - so whats the easiest way to remove the carpet?

others recommend a spray bottle with a brush - do you think that would work or is the roller better??

Yes i would recommend the spray bottle better, as it will get in the weave better and you wont get patchy bits. A compressor would be ideal, but otherwise a trigger bottle. Firstly remove front seats first 4xbolts on each, think they were 16mm you'll need a socket seat, the lift up and pull towards you rear bench seat only the bottom half, top half can stay in. Then remove black runners at front sides of the car that hold carpet in place held in by 4 grommets, prise apart with flat blade screwdriver, then remove centre console with self tapping screws and handbrake surround, then there is a few more grommets at the very front of the carpet under glove box and accelerator pedal etc, also remove or loosen rear door cards and untuck carpet under rear seatbelt mounts/doorcards. Yes this is a very good point, otherwise it takes days to get off your hands

Yes mate, on my old Cab with the valeters pride stuff.
Exactly the same results.

does it come up like new and cover any marks? I've done my beige floor carpet and pleased with the results, so might do the boot too.

Ive been contemplating this for a while but cant be asked to take the carpet out! looking for somthing that comes in a can so I can spary it on, heard AutoGlym Black Dye spray is good has anyone used this before?

i am also looking at doing this soon so i will be watching this thread.

I have been reading up on it a bit over the last week or so and alot of people say they get fantastic results by using valeters pride black dye applying it from a spray bottle and then scrubbing it in with a small brush.
I dont know how much the AutoGlym dye will be per tin but i should imagine you would need a fair few to get a good coverage and the valeters pride dye is under £25 for 5L i think, which might work out alot cheaper.

i will use a soft brush kinda like a large nail brush but with softer brissles, the carpet is out see my thread on this:

Jim, make sure you use some kind of gloves, washing up ones will
do. The dye,s a bitch to remove from your skin iirc.

yes it really is a bitch to remove, make sure you wear old clothes and gloves as already said.
