Hello to all

New on the forum but was directed by a friend who had a E30 'droptop' on advice and technical help

In anycase, i've been (attempting) to sort out the wiring on the stereo in my new car : a '87 E30 320i 2 door and i've hit a snag

I've got 3 speakers working and yet no matter where i've looked i can't find the connections to the front left speaker, the rear left is brown/yellow and black/yellow where as the front is red/yellow and brown/ yellow having removed the speakers.

Problem is i can't find the second brown/yellow and only have the red/yellow sticking out the dash. i have tried putting both negitives on the black/yellow but with no joy.

Also the interior light switch doesn't turn the lights on or off but does turn the rev counter on and off 8O .... Anyone know of a solution?

Okey Dokey.
First thing's first... Welcome to the E30zone (enjoy your stay)

I would start by using brand new wires for the speaker conections. The stock wires are pretty poor anyway.
the interior light switch doesn't turn the lights on or off but does turn the rev counter on and off
Thats a joke, right?

the interior lights are in no way connected to the rev counter and as a result, shouldnt affect the tacho.
The tacho problem is more likely to be a loose screw on the back of the instrument cluster, or dead (or dying SI board batteries)

Im sure Brianmoore will be along in the near future to contradict me (or not).

Have to look into that, though it should be there already

Don't ask me how it's doing it but it is! I flick the switch off and good bye tacho readings

is it the light that goes out on the dash, or the needles that drop to zero?

Hmmm... No idea

You can see in the diagram below how the interior lights are conected.
