Their sole purpose in life was to enable the bare shell to be mounted to the factory production line.

So to delete them on a re-build eliminates a known rust spot.....
Would you delete the rear arch lips?

Or the rear valence?
No,Barry,I would not,but unlike the 'factory moving pads',I can keep those areas clean with regular washing.

Mods please note,I am NOT attempting to pick a fight with Barry or anyone else!
That's a fair point and i'm sure we can have a healthy debate with resorting to mud slinging.

Many many congratulations to everyone who has posted on this thread (technically now including myself) with a load of sh1te that has sh1t all to do with the mans restoration.

I don't know him or the car but have followed this cos i thought 'yeah, thats another e30 being saved, good on him.' however i've just trawled thro an utter load of crap about jacking points and nothing about his restoration.

The poor fella keeps trying to change the subject back to the restoration but no, some of you just cant drop the fu*kin arguement can you.

Get it off his thread eh. Have your jacking point arguement elsewhere.

jimbom30cab, looks like this one is gonna be saved well enough, how about we all let YOU decide whether to keep your jacking points eh lol. Looking good so far. Keep up the good work.

The reason we are discussing jacking points is - oddly enough - because this just happens to be the area of the car Jim is repairing right now. He's doing a great job as well.

And how many other countless threads go of on a tangent about all kinds of shit.

Its the norm.

Besides, the powers that be have said they will split the thread in due course so stop crying about it people.

Well houndtooth isnt houndstooth either, its County and Highbacks aint highbacks, they are LS's if you want to be pedantic.

The are known (incorrectly) as jacking points but they are obviously not as many a person has found out when their jack goes through the floor!

Exactly!

These are not needed on any E30 that see's regular use, those strange homo's who park their cars in fields in the 'summer' may feel the need to fit replacement 'factory moving points' if they so wish.

This is what i did, Not to start a row again up to you what you do, A small bracket is probably better less area to rust. I added a large hole so i could get paint and cavity wax inside the strengthening point.

:D :D :D :D :D

The ones with the mint shiney cars with hidden rust you mean

Does make me laugh on here..Why are you rebuilding this, just frag it.

E30's are fast becoming as collectable as the Escorts were/are.

How many RS2000's out they haven't been welded?

The threads still needs tidying, lots of posts which don't mean much now the others have been deleted, some of which aren't that complimentary either.

The car is epic there is no denying that, molested is anything that deviated from original spec like all E30's are turds.

Keep thinking to myself I need something similar, fed up of laying on the cold ground or turning the breakers on their side by myself. Also want something I could use to replace the wheels and cart them around a bit easier, as well as not have to leave the struts/rear beam until the last minute and miss on sales when people are after them

Point is,zoner's,those square thingy's under the front footwells are NOT jacking points, the factory fitted them to move a bare shell on the production line,if you OEM homo's wish to replicate them on a 'nut and bolt' resto, fair play to you...

Those of us,very few now,who run these cars on a daily basis :D do not need this festering rot point,so feel free to delete it and gain from the wieght saving....

Way more hassle than it's worth with fraggers mate, only any point in them for restoration work. How would you push one of those about over anything other than a nice smooth yard?
You should be able to strip most an E30 in a day easy, don't know why it takes you so long.

I dont care what any of you homo's say or think, an unmolested E30 is foooking gay! (Unless its in a museum where it belongs) They have to be molested to make them worthwhile otherwise they would just be 'another old shitbox'

Jacking pads FTL!
If mine had rust they wouldnt be going back on, if I was being fussy I would just fit a small bracket to screw the arch liner to, nothing else is needed, Amen 8)

some 20 years after the the e30 was last produced the jacking pads do seem to be the achilles heel of many cars still about, but then I'm sure BMW didn't intend on them lasting this long and to still have such a massive following even now !

but in all fairness it was "extra" metal in a vulnerable place where shite flicks up from the tyre and if it's not there, all that separates the road wheel from the footwell is a single and very thin skin of metal 8O

who knows how many E30's would have 80's Ford style floor pan issues had they not been added ?

Next E30 I molest I'm going to remove one pad and replace the other one.

That way when I come to sell it I can surreptitiously ask the victim which he prefers before the viewing and direct him to the relevant side of the car to inspect the pad or the delete in all their glory. :)
