G-Bear - yup you are dead right

ajay - they are easy to make, cut out a square, cut out little squares in the corner, then fold up the edges.

I'm sorry but the guys made a nice job of the repairs, I'd leave it as is. Oh it needs the jacking points put back on. Thats a classic case of the zone spending your time and money to appease people.

It didn't take 20 years for the them to fall off. It took more like 10 and they've all been welded and need doing again now!

I didn't suggest Jim put the pads back on his car, it's a patchwork fest after all.

Why did they go back on yours then Simon?!

Who said it did have anything to do with it?

The debate raging right now is about leaving pads on or off. You had the put back on. Why? Answer the question please.

Paul, I'll reply to you when I have more time!

so what ?? some of us come on here to learn, we cant all know it all like you, who cares if someone asks where to drill a hole or what color arches would of been new, we dont all know it all like you, a 5 page thread on a hole- all i did was ask a simple question, whys it so wrong in your book for someone to ask a few questions on a car forum for a bit of help so somethings done right ? this forum has got a bad reputation for new members and the clique mentality of a handful of people, maybe if you same handful stopped pulling any and everyone apart and thinking your gods posting in any and every single thread with the same old shite and wound it in a bit n spent a bit more time in the real world, maybe more new members would post and people may ask more questions, and the zone would be a better place and shed its reputation as being full of c**ks, fact is the same few people on here cause near every single thread to have arguments, its tedious and theres no need for it, its not hard to just not comment in a thread if you have nothing positive to say

but like i said, its a couple of poxy jacking pads underneath a car that 99.999% of people who ever lay eyes on the car will never see, they can easily be put back on, so whats it matter, so have a day off go out in the fresh air and act like your gods of the world who know it all

Oi, calm down gents, this is my flippin resto thread, i want to show my grandchildren this when i'm an old turd. Besides if i ever sell the car and say "hey look at this quality resto job which i've documented here on the e30 zone" i don't want a minted buyer to walk away feeling dissapointed there's no factory jacking pads fitted.

anyway, bad news guys. . . . .

just found out this weeks hire car is a

Hyundia i40

now this puts everything into perspective, jacking pads or not, you could be driving an i40 about all week, think yourselves lucky and glad to be alive, fit and well (some of us anyway), there is always someone worse off than yourself and that is me driving a flippin i40

ok gents, lets look at the facts here, Barry likes factory jacking points, Carl likes it smooth, we've all got our opinions and agree or not, things could much worse . You could be driving a flippin i40 all week !!!!!!!!

BTW, went to the body shop today and saw the cab turd having her engine bay sprayed nice and Calypsoey. mmmm. very nice

I was enjoying this resto thread until all the opinions cropped up. Nothing wrong with giving your opinion...BUT an opinion of an opinion...

Can the mods not delete all the bulls**t and keep the thread clean!

These 'jacking pads' are not a place to mount a jack to.
Their sole purpose in life was to enable the bare shell to be mounted to the factory production line.

So to delete them on a re-build eliminates a known rust spot.....
Youth is wasted on the young.

There not even jacking points or pads. The JP's are on the sills. These plates were purely to move the body shell around the factory. the reason they rot out 9/10 is because numpties jack up on them, damage them which then lets water in.

My car still has them and no doubt one day they will need work. Will I replace them??

HELL YEAH!!!! It's all about originality maaaaan.

Would you delete the rear arch lips?

Or the rear valence?
No,Barry,I would not,but unlike the 'factory moving pads',I can keep those areas clean with regular washing.

Mods please note,I am NOT attempting to pick a fight with Barry or anyone else!
Lol, Barry's just being a bufty coont. Getting rather excited about people's personal choices.

They are boxed inward towards the chassis rail. I know it cos it's a pain to feed the fuel and brake lines through :x .

The boxes are still there Malcolm just not as pronounced. If they are jack up at this point, it will split the seams and let all sorts of wrongness in them.

This is the only shot I can find cropped from a before shot of some work I diid.
