I wish I could take a shell of no date and build it burger king up. I think I'd make mine out of XL double bacon's. They'd never go off, it'd never go rusty and it'd smell and taste good.

Power steering rack is an upgrade for the E30 and is worth taking. Wouldn't bother with the 2-litre engine. If you're going to go for an E36 engine you'd be better off throwing another £500 at a donor with a 2.8.
Front wishbones will fit, but E30 wishbones are better. Best stick with E30 ones.
Diff can be rebuilt into an E30 diff housing, but only worth it if it's an LSD and even then, it's a lot of work.
Nothing else is worth the time & effort.

engine and box will fit with a bit of work to the loom but youll need the propshaft i think the mounts are the same, however the e30s are built much better than the e36 but if the bits are cheap id go for it but the 2.0s are a bit numb and as for the formentioned 2.8 litre thats not a wise move as the 2.8s are prone to going wrong and are only about 10 hp different to the 2.5 which is the best engine, welded diff also not a good idea your best buying an lsd for a couple of hundred quid as itll be a nightmare to park and to drive slowly

2.8's are not prone to going wrong at all. If you have a choice between an m50b25 and an m52b28 pick the m52. Only reason to go for the 2.5 is steel block for things like boost.

whats wrong with an alloy block for boost?ross_jsy wrote:2.8's are not prone to going wrong at all. If you have a choice between an m50b25 and an m52b28 pick the m52. Only reason to go for the 2.5 is steel block for things like boost.

Problems arise with the 2.8 when they overheat. Steel head bolts in an alloy block. But kept in good order with regular oil changes, coolant flushes on schedule and periodic change of water pump (as per any engine) they won't overheat and nothing will go wrong. Remember belt-driven camshaft engines tend to have the water pump changed with every belt change, ~30,000 - 60,000 miles. As the M52 has chain driven camshafts, this sometimes gets neglected.Hedley48 wrote:engine and box will fit with a bit of work to the loom but youll need the propshaft i think the mounts are the same, however the e30s are built much better than the e36 but if the bits are cheap id go for it but the 2.0s are a bit numb and as for the formentioned 2.8 litre thats not a wise move as the 2.8s are prone to going wrong and are only about 10 hp different to the 2.5 which is the best engine, welded diff also not a good idea your best buying an lsd for a couple of hundred quid as itll be a nightmare to park and to drive slowly
Only 1 horsepower difference between a 2.5 M50 and 2.8 M52, but don't let that put you off. The 2.8 has more torque and is deliberately restricted. Fit the 2.5 inlet manifold to the 2.8 and say hello to up to 20 new horses. The alloy block is also lighter, by about 20 kg iirc. That's 20 kg less over the front axle meaning better handling. It's an entirely different beast.

Lol at drift cocks. Welded diffs are the reserve of deviant shit fettishist faggots. Nothing says "I fuck kids" quite like a welded diff.
