Depends how it's built/who built it and they don't tend to come up to often

while we are talking 2.7`s and not worth starting a new thread,i was swapping my engine over for a spare one today and noticed on the head on mine it says 2.5 in a little circle casting number and on this new one it says 2.5 and 2.7 (see pic ) what does this mean

It's just the generic numbers they stamped on the later 885 heads, as used on the 325i, and some 2.7 engines.

late on they built for europe and USA the "super eta" engine which was the same old 325e but with a later 885 casting head fitted instead of the older style 731 heads. thats where the 2.5 2.7 bit comes from. Same power as before but with much better tuning potential as folks found out

Early pre facelift 325i heads only have 2.5 stamped in this place, but will be 85/86 castings. Poss 87 too
