Made it go from this:

To this:

Removed all the old stereo wiring, replaced with new stuff, clean splicing to the different looms, solder and heatshrink on all of them.
Replaced all of the dash bulbs as they had all blown or didn't connect properly.
Refitted the dash and all of the associated components.
Hoovered the carpet.
Refitted passenger seat.
Sat on the carpet trying to look over the steering wheel, thought about test driving, thought better of it until the drivers seat is in.
I fitted new leather gear and handbrake gaitors. So much nicer than the previous gear one with holes and the utter rubbish concertina plastic thing for the handbrake.

It appears to be a Sony CDX-GT300

It came with the car and has AUX in, so I'll do some wiring at some point for my spare iPod, beats using CDs. It seems ok, colours are red though rather than orange which is a shame.

Yeah. I need to get some proper pictures of it, didn't fully set the camera up really. It is close and certainly not bad, but it is certainly more red than orange unfortunately.
Some google pics of the colour:

As you can see, it is more red than orange. Seems to be a hard colour to take pictures of though when lit.

I topped up the power steering fluid and took it for a short test drive. The horrible groaning has gone, and the level stayed stable. I hope it doesn't all piss out again in a couple of days. What are the odds?
I definitely need to change the fluid, it's minging.

Drove mine again, then got served with a section 59 for 'driving in a manner that may cause alarm to other road users'.
The old bill dragged me out of bed at half midnight to give it too me as well. I'd been asleep for an hour!!!

Yesterday (rather than today) I fitted a new brake light switch, exhaust down pipe gasket and some wiper blades. Now the brake lights work, I don't have an exhaust leak and my wipers won't scratch the screen.

WD40 is great for freeing up the lock but doesn't give much protection long term. I tried some bicycle chain lube and that seems to be doing a good job so far. I know I should really strip and lubricate the thing with the proper grease... but for now it'll do.

I loaned mine to the wife to do the school run while her daily, the E39, is in the garage getting its codes read.... (both sodding cam sensors require replacing
)
So I get to "enjoy" riding my motorbike to work in the rain/cold/dark and with a huge dose of man-flu.....

I've waiting for snow so I can finally test the IX with winter tyres. Shouldn't be long now.

Today I fitted a new alternator, 450 quid from the dealer for a recon unit! Got one from the nice chaps at C3 for £180.
Safe to say I wont be testing it till the snow is long gone.
